RE: I think STEEMIT can become more addictive than Facebook. Here's why.

I do not entirely agree with this post. I mean it's great that STEEM is doing so well, but let's face it -- this is an entirely NEW social platform. I think saying that we are going to replace facebook, reddit, and the likes is doing a disservice to what this platform is meant to be. Steem simply cannot provide all of the features of facebook because of the way it is built, and that isn't a bad thing! Let's not be a new facebook, let's simply be STEEM!

Good points. I see what you're saying - but wouldn't it be great if STEEM forced other social media platforms to stop hoarding the money they make?

Oh of course it would, I think the current business models of these larger companies are at the core of the problem that has never had a solution until now. I mean, how else does a company offer a free service that requires thousands of employees, millions of servers, and the cost that goes along with it if not for advertising? If facebook came out with a blockchain technology and pushed it out, nobody would trust it at this point anyway. @dan and @ned along with the other developers and early adopters stand to make and have made a lot of money already off this platform because they had the foresight to see the flaw in facebook.

I am excited to see where this project goes, but it doesn't make me want to completely "leave" facebook. I cannot directly talk with, chat with, and easily see what my close friends and family members are up to on here. (yet?)

Awesome reply. I stand with you on this one :)

As tempting as it may be to say that this is the new facebook and it's definitely going to replace both facebook and reddit, you have to realize, that even though people are getting paid and as promising as the platform is, there is still a long way to go and a lot of hurdles must be crossed before this thing becomes a major competitor. We're still in the early days. Those other sites are not going anywhere for a while.

Oh totally - we could crash and burn in the next few days - but that's the excitement of it all, no? :)
