"SLC26-W3 | Street Business Diaries: Street Cobbler, Mobile Accessories or Street Clothes."
I hope you all are doing well. So, this week I am very happy because I am going to participate in the Street Business Diaries contest. For my entry, I selected a street cobbler. This cobbler has been working in the main Hyderabad town bazar for many years, and many people know him.
We also know him personally because his parents used to live near our house. Later, they shifted to another place, but we have known this family for many years. The cobbler I chose is married and has a 17-year-old son. He usually sits on a stair outside a shop in the bazar and works there, whether it is summer or winter.
His front is always full of shoes waiting to be repaired, and he stays busy the whole day. He says he is satisfied with his work. He uses good-quality raw materials and makes broken shoes look almost like new. His prices are also very reasonable compared to others, which is why people prefer him.
01 What type of daily necessities business is most demand in your area? (Street Cobbler, Mobile Accessories or Street Clothes etc.)
In our area, the business of cobblers is very common. Their shops are running very well because there is always a big demand for this work. Most of them sit in the main market, so when people are passing by, they stop to get their shoes repaired or polished.
Shoes are something we use daily, and sometimes they break or get damaged. Instead of buying new ones, many people prefer to give them to the cobbler. They repair them so well that the shoes look almost new again. They also polish the shoes and make them neat and clean. The best part is that their charges are very reasonable, so everyone can afford it.
Families in our area also prefer this. If shoes get damaged, we first take them to the cobbler to get them repaired. Only when the shoes are not repairable, we think about buying new ones. In this way, cobblers are very useful for daily life, and that is why their business is always in demand.
02 Have you bought these yourself or visited them? Show pictures + videos and show their prices.
Yes, I recently went to the cobbler because I had a few shoes that needed to be repaired. One of my shoes had a broken strap that got lost somewhere in the house, so it was not possible to fix it without replacing. I also had a pair of slippers from my home that were completely broken from one side. So I decided to take both of them to the cobbler along with my mother.

The cobbler sits outside a shop on a small step. Whenever you see him, he is always busy with his work and doing it very carefully. His prices are also very reasonable, which is why people like to go to him. I gave him both of my shoes.
For my heels, he said he would replace the broken strap and also put the same style strap on both shoes to make them look even. I agreed with him. For my slippers, he told me he would stitch and fix the broken side properly.
He told us the total price would be 150 rupees. My mother paid him the money and thanked him, it comes to around 4.05 STEEM. He also said he would do all the work in just five minutes, and he really did it quickly.
After repairing, my shoes looked perfectly fine again. I also took some pictures and made a video of the cobbler while he was working, and later I uploaded that video on YouTube. I will also share the link with you all.
03 What is the quality of these products? Also, if you have any experience with how long they last, please tell me.
Yes, the quality of his raw materials and the things he uses is really very good. Compared to many other cobblers in the market, I feel his quality is much better. We have experience with him for many years, and whenever we give our shoes to him, he always repairs them with strong and durable materials.
For example, he has very good quality thread for stitching shoes. Even if the shoe is open from many places, he stitches it so strongly that it does not open again for a long time. He also has quality shoe stoppers, hooks, and leather patches. Once, for my shoes, he fixed hooks on both sides and they were of really good quality.

Sometimes our shoes get damaged from the bottom. In that case, he uses leather patches under the shoes. His leather quality is excellent, and once he puts it, the shoes become strong again and last for many months without breaking. The glue he uses is also of high quality.
From my own experience, I can say his work is long-lasting. One of my sandals had a broken strap, and after he repaired it, I was able to wear them again for a long time without any problem. He also cleaned and polished them, so they looked almost new. Another time, my slippers were open from one side, and he stitched them with thread by hand. That stitching was so strong that I am sure it will never break again.
04 How do people behave towards street vendors? (sympathetic, ignoring, bargaining etc.)
Yes, in our area people really respect the cobblers. We know how much hard work they do and how they provide their services at very reasonable prices. They repair our broken or damaged shoes and make them look almost new again. Because of this, we respect them a lot, and people usually treat them very nicely.
Most of the time, people do not bargain with them much, because the cobblers never demand extra money. They only charge according to their work. Still, sometimes a few customers try to bargain, but mostly people trust them and appreciate their hard work and skills.
In our community, they are well known and many regular customers go back to them again and again to repair their shoes. People respect them and pay them according to the effort they put in.
