To come to this shop, you have to get on the CNG from Sirajganj city and get off at the CNG station in Pipulbaria Bazar. And the shop is located right behind the CNG station.

So that we can easily fulfill our needs, various businesses have developed on the sidewalk as well as the shoe business. You can easily find shoes of your choice at low prices from the sidewalk. We buy shoes for home use and rough use from these shops.

what places did you visit and what types of hawker businesses did you review?

I looked around Pipulbaria Bazar of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station. And I noticed different types of hawkers running their own businesses on the sidewalk. Some are selling clothes, some are selling mobile parts, some are selling fried food and many are selling shoes. Out of these, I have chosen a shoe merchant on the sidewalk.
Who has been selling shoes on the sidewalk for 25 years in this local market.

Yes, of course! I have bought shoes many times from this shoe shop on the sidewalk. If I tell you, I will say that I buy sandals for every member of my family from this shop on the sidewalk. That is, I buy shoes from this gentleman 3-4 times a year. Today too, I bought a pair of shoes for my nephew from this shop. The owner of this shop speaks very sweetly to the customer, and sells shoes at low prices, with limited profits. His business is much better than other comparable shoe traders.

How do they face sidewalk occupation, eviction or police harassment?

Although this market is a business area, the traders here like to do business in line with Sirajganj city.
But like in the city, incidents like sidewalk eviction do not usually happen here on the part of the administration. A few years ago, the LGD evicted the sidewalk to repair the road. After the road was repaired, the hawkers again occupied the football field. However, to do business by occupying the sidewalk in this local market, political leaders have to pay a small one-time fee.

What are their biggest challenges and hopes for continuing this business?

The biggest challenge for these sidewalk hawkers is night security. Because supermarkets have separate security arrangements and night guards for the safety of their shops, including personal security, from the market owner. On the other hand, there is no security arrangement for sidewalk shops except for covering them with polythene and tying them with ropes. Although a few security personnel are appointed for the entire market, this security is not enough. The hawkers rely on Allah.
Another big challenge for them is to deal with the sun and rain. Another challenge is that there is a lot of dust on the sidewalk. Due to which they have to face challenges in maintaining cleanliness.

The hope of the sidewalk hawkers is that the environment should always be favorable. A sufficient number of customers will constantly come to their shops and buy their products. Another big hope is that they can be free from the separation campaign. Although the eviction drive in the discussed market is very rare, there is still a little fear in the mind, when the administration will come, and there is a great hope that the administration will never evict them. ‌‌ The hawkers of the discussed market are running their shops with sufficient space for the movement of vehicles, which I think does not cause any major inconvenience.
