SLC27-W5 | A One-Day Street Journalist: The Struggle Of Street Hawkers

Today I went to a market near my school to participate in the competition. I noticed that there are various types of shops in that market all the time on the side of the road. And among those shops there is also a seasonal fruit shop. Today, I noticed among the many fruit shops that a banana seller is selling bananas in a very beautiful way. At the same time, after going to the banana seller, I noticed that the price of bananas is relatively low. Many of you may not be able to imagine that the price of such a nutritious fruit will be reduced by so much. Bananas are called complete food, so most people like to eat bananas a lot. Personally, I like eating bananas very much and that is why I buy bananas from here from time to time. Today, after going to the banana seller, I noticed that the price of bananas has become only 10 taka. It is unthinkable that such big bananas are being sold for only 10 taka. After going there, I noticed that two types of bananas are being sold, one banana is still green in color and some bananas have turned yellow in color. Since I go here regularly, I don't buy a lot of bananas. Today I bought three halis of bananas from there to meet my family's needs. When these run out, I will buy more bananas.

| 01 What places did you visit and what types of hawker businesses did you review? |

I went to the Marka market to collect these photographs to participate in the competition. The name of this hawker business is the seasonal fruit business. Different types of seasonal fruits are available and we noticed that those fruits are sold in this way in a van. Although banana is a seasonal fruit, it is available all year round and the price of this banana can change a lot depending on the season. Since it is the banana season now, the price of banana is much lower now. Although the sellers are facing some losses, the buyers are now getting the opportunity to buy bananas very easily. As a result, they are getting the opportunity to easily consume the nutrients found in bananas.

| 03 How do they face sidewalk occupation, eviction or police harassment? |

Although they do business by occupying the sidewalk, they do not have to face much police problem because they are temporary traders. If they were using it permanently, they would definitely have faced police problems because of occupying the road. They operate their business in such places at a certain time of the day or at a certain time of the week and that is why they do not have to face much police problem.

I think the biggest challenge in running this type of business is the price of the product. In fact, the prices of such seasonal fruits change at different times and because of this, there are times when the businessmen manage their business very well and there are times when it becomes very difficult for them to manage their business. When the prices of such seasonal fruits are high, the businessmen get the opportunity to make a lot of profit from it, but when the prices are low, their profit from it becomes very less.
