SLC27-W4 | A One-Day Street Journalist: Public Parks and Recreation Center Business
A few months ago, if I were to take pictures of this place, it would lack approval. The reason is because citizens utilised this place outside its purpose. Maybe that's because the then government didn't take actions into their hands to send out people that misuse this place.
Which park or zoo or tourist attraction have you visited, and what business have you reviewed?
This is not a place of tourist attraction, nor is it a zoo, but a recreational centre, where one can picnic with family in a flat open space. Though the modification is still in process, we are definitely seeing long-lasting changes: people trooping in like never before, friends coming in to sit out and watch live performances, events and group activities. I didn't come here to watch but to sit out, get fresh air from the place's greenery, take a few soft drinks and back off. In this city, we have a park and a recreational centre that are well known, and the one in this review is the Plaza region under renovation to compete with modern facilities.

Recreational Center Entrance
As earlier stated, some parts are entrance restricted due to renovations, and the other is on Brook Street, Nwaniba, completely out of bounds for now as serious construction is going on there. It will be open soon as a tourist attraction and a fully fledged entertainment ground for people. The entrance is well decked for cars to park and for a walkway. Up here, they occupy a large space of land, so it's really hard to get to business places except for a few stands that are hawking.
Still around this vicinity on the other side of a half-walled fence, I found a business, a VR game business which is also an indoor game business. The game shop is the best so far in this street, and it is called MILES ARCADE located along Okokon Etuk Street, Uyo. They have an exterior open space, two doors for an entrance, and the street where it is situated is a nice one and well tarred. They have many games inside the store, including a snooker game, a virtual reality gamepad which I forgot to snap before leaving, a PS3, and a PS4. According to the worker here, they will be upgrading to a PS5 soon. Spot the jockey commands written boldly on the wall.
Have you ever bought anything from these stores? Show pictures and videos and show their prices.
Right now, I think I was their first patronage at this very hour.
I actually asked for their pattern of charging a customer, and I was told the snooker is a play-and-lose game; the loser pays a fee of N500 after losing, but the winner doesn't pay. That's a nice way to treat a gamelord. Also, if a person decides to quit, he will pay N500.
The virtual reality game is different. You pay a sum of N1500 for a game play.
For the PS3 & 4 games, it charges N250 per 10 minutes of gameplay, and you can either choose to play with a computer or a friend.
I actually estimate the amount one can make here if sales go on in 24 hrs. If there are about 4 stations for gameplay for the PS games, 2 players per gamepad for 10 minutes will cost N500. Considering the opening hours of 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, we have 660 minutes divided by 10 minutes per section, and that result is multiplied by the charge per minute, which is N33,000 naira per stand, and approximately 132,000 in a day for the video games. For the snooker, the amount made is actually unpredictable, but we can actually make at least 5,000-10,000 in a day if players play for at least 30 minutes. This actually depends on the location of the game business, so with a good location one can actually make approximately N100,000 by setting up his game business this way
How do shopkeepers keep customers engaged?
Free games like snooker may keep those who have always patronised their company engaged, and also there are special seats to relax and watch others if you lose a game. Most especially, the kind of music played here keeps everyone entertained; some dance to the music while it's others' turn to play.
How many employees are working in this business, and what is their monthly income?
Actually, one person can actually manage this place since the game business is not in an expanded area, though he is a player. One thing he has to have is the ability to calculate and be attentive to whoever plays, so obviously just one person manages this game business, and that is the boy I interviewed. He is the manager of this place, the only employee for now; his salary is N25,000, and definitely this business sometimes moves in the evening as people will stop by to play on returning from work or school.

The interview with this game business employee went well; he told me how they charge by the minute, why the music keeps playing and how many customers patronised him this very day. He also mentioned how the business struggles most of the time because of where it is situated, comparing it with other game shops he knew when he was not employed. I actually paid for some player who played the game and also paid for myself, so I enjoyed the companionship of asking them questions as I told them the purpose of my review and told them more about Steemit, where they can also play games and earn passively. To start up a game business may actually cost N2,000,000=15,000 steem for a start. Thanks for having me, I remain Nsijoro.
