"SLC27-W5 | A One-Day Street Journalist: The Struggle Of Street Hawkers."
Hello dear friends,
How are you all? I hope you are well. I am also fine by the grace of Allah. Today, I have come to participate in the fifth week of the Steemit Challenge SLC-S27/W5, organized by the Honorable teacher @max-pro sir. He has brought a fully uncommon and thoughtful challenge, whose name is "A One-Day Street Journalist: The Struggle Of Street Hawkers."I feel proud to participate in this challenge.
Which places have you visited and what type of hawker business have you reviewed? |
|---|
Yes, today I reviewed a roadside business in the Sahi Bazar area under Narayanganj district. The Sahi Bazar neighborhood in Narayanganj district is a working-class area. Along with the wealthy, there are people from the lower and middle classes. The wealthy are 20%, while the low and middle classes are 80%.
Naturally, for these 80% of the poor, many mobile shops or businesses have been set up here by spreading stools on the roadside. Every afternoon, clothes shops, various household items shops, cosmetics shops, toy shops, food shops, and other items are set up by spreading polythene on the ground or on a stool. The capital of these businessmen is as small as their customers are low-income people.

In order to save their lives, these traders do business on the side of the road with little capital, waiting for the storm and fighting for their livelihood. Today I have reviewed the shop of such a trader.

The shop that I have reviewed today is a toy shop. The owner of the shop is an elderly man. He sells toys on the side of the road with a capital of only 5000 takas. He is physically ill and cannot work. But he needs money to run his family, so he sells children's toys with little capital. He does business in this place every day from 4.00 pm to 9.00 pm. He spreads thick polythene on the ground and sells toys suitable for the lower middle class. He runs his family with this income.
Have you ever bought anything from these shops? Show pictures + videos and show their prices.- |
|---|
I myself am from a middle-class family, although I did not buy any items from the same hawker today, I came here only to review for the Steemit challenge, but when my children were small, I had to buy many toys to comfort them. Not only that, some of my acquaintances work as hawkers and earn a living. To know if there is a similarity with previous experience, I go to the elderly person, find out about his business, I want to know the capital and profit amount for the business.

The elderly person shares everything with me with a simple mind, there are 5 people in his family, and the responsibility of the family depends on him, so despite his physical problems, he has continued this business. He earns 20000 every month from the business. He is supported with that money.
Now I am mentioning some toys name and their price
| Toys name | BD value | Steem value |
| Bangla alphabate | 150.00 | 13.64 |
| Plastic motor cycle | 120.00 | 10.91 |
| Blocks for kids | 200.00 | 18.18 |
| Tructor toys | 150.00 | 13.64 |
| Rab cars | 150.00 | 13.64 |
| Kitchen item | 100.00 | 9.09 |
| Fighters toys | 150.00 | 13.64 |
| Plastic balls | 20.00 | 1.82 |
| Jhunjhuni | 20.00 | 1.82 |
I took some pictures of his business with his permission; the gentleman happily allowed me to take pictures. I presented some pictures from there.
Now I am presenting a short vedio of the stree hawker shop
How do people face footpath encroachment, eviction or police harassment? |
|---|
Many poor people in our country sit on the side of the road and run their businesses. Sometimes they liaise with local leaders and sometimes with local administrations, and illegally occupy the footpaths and run their businesses.

Due to this, chaos and traffic jams are created on the roads, and there is a lot of disorder in the movement of people and vehicles. To overcome this situation, the government and administration often carry out eviction drives, demolishing the shops on the side of the road, taking away the goods of the shops, and sometimes taking punitive measures.

What are their biggest challenges and hopes in continuing this business? |
|---|
No one does hawk business as a hobby. There are various problems in this business. Due to the environmental situation, many people are getting involved in the hawking business. While running this business, they have to face various challenges such as.
Biggest challenges
Financial instability-
Every business requires proper capital. Although the amount of capital required in the hawking business is less, it is often not possible to manage this little capital. Therefore, raising money is a major challenge.
Adverse nature: -
Hackers have to run their business under the open sky, sitting in a van or on the side of the road. But nature is not always favorable. Sometimes they have to face storms and rain, sometimes they have to face the bitter cold weather. Therefore, most of the year, they have to face the adverse conditions of nature and do business.
Social restrictions: -
Society does not respect a hawker as a human being. They are treated as a kind of scorn. They are socially neglected. Hawker traders have to accept this situation and run their business.
Administrative obstacles: -
On the one hand, the administration allows hawkers to sit on the side of the road in exchange for money. Then they evict them under pressure from the higher administration. This is a daily occurrence. Traders have to work in such painful conditions.
In addition, hawkers have to face more and more new challenges every day.

Hope: -
Millions of people all over the country earn a living by hawking, supporting their families. Day by day, people's perspective is changing; now they are neglecting them less than before. They are learning to respect them, treating them well.

Head of earning member of the family
Also, the government is thinking about the hawkers and is creating a well-established hawkers' market so that they can run their business without any worries. Although the rate is very low so far, the permanent arrangements for hawkers are increasing day by day. One day, maybe we will see no hawkers sitting on the side of the road getting wet in the rain, facing police harassment, and not being socially disrespected. The good days of hawkers will return; I can see the light of that day coming back, and I am counting the days waiting for that happy day.
