SLC26-W4 | Street Business Diaries: Service-based professions."
Hi steemians, I am here to share a brief review about my friend Kingsley, my course mate in the university who move from office to street to earn a living.
We attended the same University with Kingsley and graduated the same year.
We all went our separate ways, and will talk to each other on phone and on social media.
He worked in an establishment who did not value his hard work because of some kind of favouritism.
He was treated unfairly and one day he decided to take a bold step to re-sign from work after so much humiliation.
Life became so hard for him to the point that he started hawking ice-cream in the street.
After a while of not seeing him on social media, I saw him two months ago, in this road while I was returning from a meeting.
I approached him and asked him why he was on the street, he told me his story and shed tears.
Two months later I met him there again yesterday when I was returning from meeting using that route. I rarely used that side of the street walking down the road to board a vehicle.
He told me he has been staying there for sometimes now and many people have been buying from him.
He says he sells very well and make three times the salary he was paid in the organisation he worked for before resigning to the street.
What types of service-based occupations are most in demand in your area? (Barber, mechanic, watch/glasses repairer, van ice cream vendor, etc.)
There are many services based occupations in my area and most of them are high in demand while others are less in demands.
In this contest I would say that the service of a barber, mechanic and ice- cream vendor are in high demand.
Everyday people go for the service of a barber to have their hair cut and their service is what most people can't do without.
Same goes to mechanic, we use vehicle everyday and without notice they get spoil at any time. Some on the road while driving, some you will just pack and upon starting it, it doesn't respond. Some have complicated part and get spoil and some of them do not last longer.
All these makes the services of a mechanic high in demand.
Talking about ice-cream sellers, these people makes a lot of money, because no matter where they are, or where they stationed, children will always request for ice cream.
Though adult eat them as well but children will also demand for ice cream, they can choose ice cream over food.
Their service is of high demand and they makes so much sales from their ice cream.
Have you ever used these services yourself or purchased anything? Show pictures + videos and show their prices.
Personally I have been buying ice cream, as many times as possible.
My children loves ice cream so much and I have come to understand that it is children's craving and as such I usually gives them.
This is the video I made with him.
He was so shy about the video and asked me not to show colleagues.
This ice-cream was sold for ₦500 per cone and I bought two which was ₦1000. That is approximately 5 steem (2.5 steem each) at the current price of steem today.
My children eating the ice-cream.
Were you satisfied at the end of the work or were you ever disappointed?
Giving the Ice-cream to one of my children
I was really satisfied with the ice-cream I bought from Kingsley and the quantity he put for me my children couldn't finished it. I had to help them eat some then give it back to them to finish.
The taste was awesome, it was not just sweeteners and some kind of mixture that will not make sense. The taste of it shows that they actually added enough milk to the ice-cream.
I was not disappointed in the taste of his ice-cream and any day I walked that road again and meet him there, I will surely patronage him.
Do people appreciate the work of the shopkeeper? If you have personal experience, please tell us.
People appreciate the work of street ice-cream vendor in my area. If there was no appreciation they wouldn't have been no patronage by people especially parents.
After I got the ice-cream for my children, other passerby also stopped and bought from him.
Sometimes according to him, he used to ran out of stock and will go for another one before the days runs out.
Location
