Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week131: Dealing With An Ingrate

in Steem4Nigeria3 hours ago

If there is something I am grateful to God that life has done for me, it is the fact that it has brought different kind of people my way to learn from and gain massively how life works. For me, I have come to discover that we can not avoid an ingrate who we normally call as people that did not appreciate any good thing we always do to them. Most of the time, we show them a whole lot of effort but at the end of the day, it is not really appreciate.

In fact most of the time, an ingrate can even spoil your name at your back. Which most of the time can discourage you to even show more love because you will be thinking that your help you show is not appreciated most especially when you went all the way to support them and show them love. I have seen it before.

Yes, I have dealt with an ingrate in the past. There was a time I helped a friend who was struggling financially. I supported him with money, advice, and even gave him connections that helped him get a job. During that period, I sacrificed some of my own comfort just to make sure he was okay.

At first, he seemed grateful, but after he became stable, his attitude changed. He started ignoring me, talking to me with pride, and even denied that I helped him when others asked. That experience really hurt me because I never expected such behavior from someone I cared about.

That particular experience taught me a whole lot of things about life that not everyone I help will actually value and appreciate the help that you render. It is actually supposed to be so. Not only that, that particular experience also taught me that most of the time, I should render help to people without not expecting them to pay back and that is very true. Most of the time, we are always tempted to help people thinking they will help us back.

If you keep expecting those same set of people to help you back, trust me, you will be highly disappointed and which you might not really like. I also learnt the power of setting boundaries. I know fully well that it is good to help people but at the same time, I understand the place of setting boundaries when helping people. I should know when to help people and when not to.

Despite my past experience, I would still do good to others. I believe that doing good is a part of who I am, and I should not allow one bad experience to change that. However, I will be more careful and wiser in how I help people. I will still show kindness, but I will not overextend myself or ignore warning signs. Helping others is a good thing, and the world needs more kindness, but it should be done with wisdom.

For me personally, dealing with an ingrate is never easy, but it teaches valuable life lessons. It helps us grow, become wiser, and understand human nature better. No matter what, we should not stop doing good, because kindness will always find its way back to us in one way or another.
