SLC-S31/W1-“Creative Interpretation| The Word (Invisible)”
Gift sat by the window with her knees drawn up to her chest as she watched the rain writing secrets on the glass while racing itself down it.
On the outside, everything looked peaceful and quiet as city was still alive despite the rain.
Lights were flickering, cars passed along while people moved to and fro with their umbrellas over them protecting them from the rain.
Life is bubbling outside but Gift felt like a ghost in her own world. Not becomes she cannot be seen but because no one truly notices her.
She smiles when she’s greeted and shows up when needed but a storm was raging inside of her.
No one pauses long enough to find out the reason for her silence. None sees the heaviness in her chest or the weight in her eyes.
None one notices how she disappears even while present. She has mastered how to be present yet invisible.
Torn between the pressures of who she really is and who people expect her to be.
She has become invisible not because she cannot be seen but because no one really cares or understands her.
To the others she’s present but to herself she’s fading.
Explain what “invisible” represents in your interpretation. |
|---|
The word invisible for me stands for the battles we face everyday silently. It represents the emotions that we process which never got expressed.
It is that feeling we have when we are surrounded by people yet we feel so alone.
Invisible represents the efforts we put into ourselves and others that go unnoticed, the pain we bear that we never get to share and our silent resilience in the faces of expectations.
Describe the emotion connected to your piece. |
|---|
The emotion tied to my story is a mixture of loneliness and deep longing. The longing to be actually seen, heard and understood beyond the interactions we have with others on the surface.
Most times people just ask you how are you and expect the normal I am fine and we mostly say that all the time as a norm while in actual reality we are battling with so much that we wish we can share with someone who would truly look beyond that and see that we are actually going through a lot that ordinarily we may not share.
Our loved ones sometimes expects so much from us that we are actually breaking inside yet we try to be strong and no one sees us disappear under that weight and burden of life and expectation.
If your interpretation had a color or sound, what would it be and why? |
|---|
If my interpretation has a color, it would be a muted grey- blue, just like the rainy evening before night fully falls. It’s not completely dark but the color is dim enough that everything gets blurred into a soft sad and lingering feeling.
If it has a sound, it be the sound of that gentle tapping of the rain against the glass. A sound that’s persistent, calm and steady.
It doesn’t break the silence but fills it and it’s a gentle reminder that there’s something there even if no one truly listens because sometimes the loudest stories are not the most powerful ones but the ones that are invisible.
