Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 106: If I were to be a Billionaire
"IT'S MONDAY morning at 7:30 am in my penthouse. I'm just waking up 1 hour and 30 minutes after my alarm rang itself out of its seating, or at least it was supposed to. I don't really know, because I don't wake up to its singing. I move out of bed and open my Binance portfolio: $4,000,000,000 in Bitcoin, Steem and assorted cryptocurrencies, and this does not even count as half of my wealth.
As you can obviously tell, I'm a crypto whale. I walk up lazily to my kitchen, and the private chef is asking what I'd like for breakfast. The day's schedule is planned, golfing included, of course. I mean, which billionaire doesn't? There's work, obviously, but I don't feel like going because when you're a billionaire, Mondays don't chase you; you decide whether to chase them back..."
Pause. That didn't actually happen; it will soon, but it just hasn't happened yet, and this just happens to be me daydreaming about being a billionaire. Before you think I'm weird, let's be real: most of us have at least daydreamed about what our lives would be like with a few extra zeros added to our bank account. Clearly I have, too. But in reality though, what would I actually do if I were a billionaire?

If you were a billionaire or eventually become a billionaire someday, list the things you would have done or loved to do. Tell us reasons why you'd like to do them.
Regarding what I would do if my pockets were that deep, first, I would build a world-standard library, because I love books, I love reading, and I think that education and knowledge are the best gifts one can pass down to the younger generations, and, as you can tell, obviously, I love writing too. After all, knowledge, unlike luxury cars, never goes out of style.

Next, I’d invest in renewable energy projects, like cheaper solar energy accessible for poor households and even solar-powered factories, because saving the planet is cooler than buying another private jet. And of course, I’d still spoil myself a little. I'll buy a Rolls Royce Ghost, a Mercedes-Benz waggon, and a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, all for classy appearances, and a BMW M3 for drifting.
I definitely wouldn't forget the Hellcat. For my jewellery, I'd get the original AP, Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Cartier, not even to mention endless clothes and shoes in my walk-in wardrobe. The reason behind so many dreams isn't just comfort; rather, it's influence. What's the point of all that money if it doesn't better the world in some way, or you cannot style and flaunt it?

List at least 3-5 billionaires you know and what you admire about them. |
---|
Okay, okay, real billionaires that impress me happen to include Elon Musk. Damn, he's number 1 on my list. Come on, the man wants to settle Mars. That's classic "thinking outside the box" when your box is the whole world, plus he's done so much for the world already. Robotaxi? Teslas? Starlink? And so much more.
Another person is Warren Buffett; what I like about him is how he shows that frugality and intelligence can coexist, and in theory he still occupies the same home he purchased all those years ago.
And then there is Jeff Bezos, the man who turned book selling on the internet into a global empire, something I'm truly inspired by, although I'm not entirely sure that he has worked out how to get pizzas to Mars yet. I also admire Mark Zuckerberg, the 'Facebook guy whose 'like' button has changed human online communication forever (sometimes maybe too much, perhaps). At the same time, what they all have in common and I admire is the big dream, the working-hard-day-and-night ethic, and the audacity to turn dreams into businesses that touch billions and billions of individuals.

Do you think being a billionaire can solve all your problems? Give your reason. |
---|
While, naturally, being a billionaire might seem like one has all his problems solved, I doubt that it's actually so. Yes, money may come in happy bundles, but it cannot buy one peace of mind. Also, being a billionaire means getting whatever you want whenever you want, but I don't think that that fattened crypto wallet can make problems like loneliness, disease, and ripped relationships disappear instantly. Instead, sometimes they can get worse, so while being a billionaire can solve my housing, trade funding, and clothing problems, I don't really think it can solve my deeper life challenges.
Are there some challenges associated with being a billionaire? Enumerate them. |
---|
There are definitely challenges associated with having billions in one's bank account, which might include:
- Privacy: This is the first issue, in my opinion. Imagine not being able to go out at night to buy killishi without fearing that someone will tweet, "Breaking news: Billionaire spotted buying suya."
- Heavy expectations: clearly everyone wants a contribution, a tie-up, or a slice of your massive estate. They just naturally happen to expect more now that you have billions to your name, like you owe them a dime.

Add to that the stress of coping with empires, the constant fear of scandal, and the periodic headache of taxes. Despite probably having hordes of accountants, billionaires have no idea where all their money is going; it's really hard to keep up.
Is being rich or a millionaire against your belief as an individual? Explain |
---|
Personally, I think that wealth itself isn't evil; my belief and religion teach that it's what's in the heart that matters. Money is just an instrument, and when utilised properly, it can be used to build schools, hospitals, and potential, but when utilised improperly, it can facilitate greed, exploitation, and many times bad television programmes.
My belief is that if I were ever to become that rich, I'd want to exist so people wouldn't just recall my bank account but also how much impact I've had in my state, my country and the world at large.
So yes, I'd love to be a billionaire someday. Not for the yachts or the flashy cars (okay, maybe a little for that though. But mostly, because money magnifies character, making you a better person. What I mean is, if you’re generous when you’re broke, then definitely, you’ll be life-changing when you’re rich. But if you’re selfish when you’re poor, you’ll just be a billionaire-sized problem.
And that, my dear Steemians, is why I hope, not for billions, but to become the kind of billionaire who spends well, gives well, and still drives a fast BMW.

Thanks for inviting and sharing a great post. I will try to post, time permitting. But let me admit, I have no ambition to become a billionaire, as what I have right now is enough for me.
I love your kind of a billionaire. Even when you have thoughts about the less privileged, you have really good thoughts for yourself. Luxury!
My dear, I love luxury, no pretense. Just that life don't come as we want it. You know what? As far as your eyes can see, you can have it, remember God told Abraham this. You can become what you think by God's goodness and hard work.
Here's sending best wishes!
