THE DIARY GAME:Things you Should NEVER do in a Sitting Courtroom
Many people walk into a courtroom thinking it is just like any other public place. It is not.
A courtroom is a place of order, discipline, and respect for the law. Once the court is in session, certain behaviours are simply unacceptable.
Here are some things you should never do in a sitting courtroom:
🥢 Don’t Eat
A courtroom is not a restaurant. Eating during proceedings shows disrespect to the court.
🥢 Don’t Drink Water or Beverages Casually
Unless permitted or absolutely necessary, drinking in court while proceedings are ongoing is considered improper.
🥢 Don’t Pick Up Phone Calls
Your phone should be on silent or switched off. Answering calls in court can interrupt proceedings and attract the anger of the judge.
🥢 Don’t Laugh Loudly
Even if something sounds funny, the courtroom is not a place for loud laughter or gossip.
🥢 Don’t Interrupt Proceedings
Speaking while the judge, lawyer, or witness is talking can disrupt the court process.
🥢 Don’t Move Around Unnecessarily
Avoid walking in and out or roaming about while the court is sitting.
🥢 Don’t Dress Indecently
Courtrooms demand decent and respectful dressing.
🥢 Don’t Disrespect the Judge or Court Officials
Always address the judge properly and remain respectful at all times.
🥢 Don’t Use Your Phone
Scrolling through social media, texting, or recording in court is highly inappropriate and sometimes prohibited.
🥢 Don’t Chew Gum or Make Noise
Small behaviours like chewing gum, whispering loudly, or making unnecessary sounds can distract the court.
Remember a courtroom is a place where people’s freedom, rights, and justice are decided. Conduct yourself with seriousness and respect.
Knowing how to behave in court can save you from embarrassment or even contempt of court.
