SLC-S29/W4-“Thinking and Ideas!| Rethinking the Normal!”

Another day to share an interesting post with you based on the challenge tips. I have come to discover that what we believe will make us succeed in life, we don't actually need it, as we were meant to believe. Let's get to know what I am referring to.
Name one practice, belief, or system that people accept as normal but should be questioned.
"Normal" Belief: University Education is the key to success
Many societies and a large number of people believe University education as the only respectable path to success. I was meant to believe that education is the key to success and due to this believe a lot of people don't care about getting a skill before going to acquire a university degree and at the end of getting the degree when they don't get a job it is then that they will want to acquire a skill.
Having said that, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, and vocational work are often seen as second-class options, even when they are essential and profitable. The simple truth is that it's not everyone who would become successful through a university degree some are meant to become successful through their skills, entrepreneurship, business, etc.
Why do you think people rarely challenge it?
I think people rarely challenge this belief because it is deeply tied to family expectations and social status. Parents want security for their children, and degrees feel like a safer, and more recognised route for their children to become secure.
Media, schools, and employers also reinforce the idea that academic achievement equals intelligence and worth, which are needed for someone to become successful and secure.
What could improve if this “normal” way changed?
I will begin by saying that society needs to respect multiple paths to success for the following to improve:
More people especially young people would pursue skills that match their talents.
Unemployment could be reduced through the creation of practical jobs.
People would feel less pressure and shame about non-academic careers.
Local industries and skilled trades would grow stronger.
Entrepreneurship and innovation would increase.
What might be lost if it disappeared completely?
If the academic pathway lost all importance completely, society could risk undervaluing research, medicine, Science and professional standards.
In today's world, Universities still play a very critical role in advancing knowledge and training specialists. The goal of our focus shouldn't be erasing formal education, but to remove the belief that it is the only honourable route to success.

Great article. Nowadays, we only focus on the function of educational institutions as tools for obtaining formal degrees and financial resources, while jobs (success) are not derived from what one learns there. Yes, every university doesn't prepare its students to become workers or future successful individuals after graduation. So, what guarantee can a university have if a diploma isn't a powerful tool for students to find employment?
..and, your article also opened my eyes to this common belief that universities are instruments for activating reason, leading to healthy thinking and minimizing ignorance, Not focusing on work but on freedom and quality of thinking and critical arguments to give birth to the ability "question and provide solutions" not just the ability to accept doctrine.
As you explained, this is a difficult issue to challenge, even though a diploma is "merely proof" that someone attended school! not proof that they possess intellectual ability or skills.
I wish you success, my friend @josepha 🙏

Thank you for your feedback. I think it is the more reason why people should be encourage to pursue skills before going for University education.

Hi @josepha, welcome to thinking and ideas week 4
Even myself, I had that believe because of my upbringing. Everyone around me talked about education as a life support system, if you were not educated, you are most likely regarded as a lost sheep.
