Hello friends, welcome to my blog. Today let's look at the topic we have before us. I want to share my thoughts about it. Let's get right into it guys!

What does it mean to be "true to yourself"?

This statement is another way to define integrity, it means expressing on the outside who you really are and what you stand for on the inside. This is the best way I think I can explain it. I would say, doing and demonstrating outwardly that which you strongly believe in. When you're true to yourself, you are not living a double standard life thereby deceiving people and ultimately betraying one's self.

There is a subtle gap between believing something and holding on to what you believe, this is where many people who claim to be persons of integrity actually miss it. They tend to compromise here especially when they seem pressured to go against their core values and belief system.

Why is it important for people to keep their promises?

It's important to keep promise because it portrays you as someone with integrity. Someone once said that we are our every words. People can size you up and make conclusions about you based on your words and most importantly your actions. Hence the reason why we need to be very carefully when making promises.

Making a promise is like committing yourself to a futuristics action. The future is always uncertain, many could not keep up to their promises because of these uncertainties that is why we need to be careful when making a promise. It's not because they are bad but because life happens.

If you're a person of integrity, when life happens and you can't keep up with your promise, approach whoever you have promised and explain things to them amicably why you won't be able to make good your promise or why you would love to consider another convinient time to make good your promise.

This helps you maintain your value before them, it's far better than looking away and assume they would understand why you failed to keep your promise. With the above method I just explained, you would be able to protect your reputation as someone of integrity.

What's the difference between being honest and being nice?

Oops! Here is a dicey question, I hope I'm able to do justice to it. Let me give it a try. Being nice is when you try to allow your feelings to cloud your sense judgement about certain things and that's the reason why you try to overlook certain things or make things that look bad, mild.

You're concerned about how a person will feel when you tell them the way it is, you prefer to make people or situation cools when they really ain't. Being nice is choosing feeling over values or reality.
And thats where being honest comes in. Someone who is honest prioritizes truth and values above emotions.

He or she says it the way it is not minding who is involved or what is at stake. You might choose to say it in a soothing and friendly manner, which of course is advisable but then the truth have been communicated which is what is important.

If your friend asked you to lie for them to get out of trouble, would you do it? Why or why not?

I won't do such, I can't lie to save a friend especially when that friend already know what I stand for. This is why I believe it's important to spell out your values, ideologies and beliefs when dealing with people.

Let them know what you stand for so that the day you decide to stand for what you believe especially when they are on the wrong, they won't pick offence becaue they must have been seeing those trait even before they approach you to bend your rules.

I can actually help in other ways by suggesting ways to get out of the trouble or make the punishment milder if he or she must be punished but to lie is to betray myself and the unfortunate part nobody always talks about is that such a friend can never truly defend your integrity on days that really matter because you flawed before their very eyes. You thought you helped but a major part of you is broken already.
