The Untouchables

When we think about the movies that were produced in the past and those that are still popular and gaining more and more people who after watching fall in love with genre or hero or the story we always look back and I must say there are many good movies and it was not easy to choose one from those that are my favourite.

Still I have one movie to present you and to explain why I like it.

I thought to share with you the movie called “The Untouchables” and it was produced in 1987 in USA but the story about the time further back in 1930, the time when it was anti-alcohol law but despite of that the mafia boss Al Capone had alone the control of supplies of alcohol and of course it made a lot of money. With this it had politicians and police under control.

In this world it was a young Prohibition officer Elliot Ness is appointed to fight corruption and mafia connection.

He already had an Irish Veteran James Malone, who advises to get new recruits.

Of course, it is difficult to find loyal people in police, many already been paid by Al Capone, so he decides to take fresh young policemen from academy, he found one he is George Stone Italian American. Initially Mr. Malone was sceptic about him, but later on he trusted him. He also had an accountant, who later played very important role in fighting the mafia.

What felt different about the storytelling of the movie compared to newer films?

I felt that in this movie there was a main topic that needed to be developed and the whole story was slowly developed. There was no excessive shooting and there was no bloody scene. I like how it has shown the human weaknesses like people will go against the law if they are paid good enough of money. It is a temptation that many are tested with and majority are not able to resist. It is always the question if a person will think about own benefit of for the people who live in the are and who police should protect.

Did the film age well, or did some parts feel outdated?

The movie itself was not too old, it was made in colour, of course, nowadays it is HD is popular quality but I am not sure if they so updated it till that high quality.

What do you think made this movie a “classic”?

We always want that good wins over bad and that everything has happy end. In this movie there is a happy end but the team will loose one of their member it is James, Malone, an old Veteran who will be killed by mafia. But what I like is the fact that at the end the Accountant after reviewing the books of Al Capone will fine the important stuff that will help at the end to use against the mafia boss and get him in prison. That only proved that it is not weapon are strong but knowledge and then even an accountant can fight a powerful mafia boss.

How did the characters or themes relate to today’s world?

Today, we still have corruption that we see often in politics and sometimes we may see it in police too like in the movie. Luckily there are more honest people today and also people who still like to be at Law to help people and protect people. I think the movie is the one that never will age and will be popular.
