Goats are also one of the most important farm animals especially to the rural farmers. They are easy to farm, they are also adjustable to a wide range of environment, and they provide a wide range of products that are of good use. Goats are very critical in increasing food production, income, and farm sustainability due to such attributes.
One of the best benefits of goats in agriculture is production of milk by the goats. Goat milk is highly nutritious and can be readily digested. A substantial amount of farmers have been using it to make dairy products such as cheese, yogurt, and butter. These products may be consumed by the family or sold out in the markets that is a great source of income.
Goats are also maintained as animals whose output is utilized as meat that is highly consumed in most parts of the world. The goat meat is rich in proteins and other nutrients. Goats are animals that are reared in large numbers and therefore since they are fast breeding animals, they do not require much space as compared to other animals like cattle and therefore farmers can raise meat using goats.
The other useful item that goats bring to the farming industry is the manure. The droppings of goats are converted into natural fertilizers and they assist in raising the soil fertility and yield. The goat manure that is distributed by the farmers is mainly applied to the farms to foster plant growth. This will minimize the fertilizer chemical usage and will introduce more sustainable agriculture.
In addition, goats will help in the maintenance of weeds and undesirable plants. Being also natural feeders, they can eat by far numerous grasses, shrubs and weeds that other animals avoid. Goats are also helpful because they clear the farmland since they eat such plants and ensure the pasture is healthy.
Skin and hair also value goats. Their skins in the form of leather goods such as shoes, bags and drums can be used and their hair can be used in making textile and ropes.
Generally speaking, goats are immensely relevant to the agriculture sector because they can be used as milk sources, meat, manure, etc. They are also used to help the farmers manage the land, and make money. These reasons have made goats remain an important aspect of the agricultural activities of most communities in the world.
