THE DIARY GAME on August 22 2021: How I spent my day

in #steemalive3 years ago

When I woke up in the morning on this beautiful Sunday, I started preparing to attend a Christian gathering as I have the custom. Perhaps you also do similar thing.

Among the lessons discussed includes why we should guard against greed, the temporary and lasting consequences of greed -yes greed.

It's obvious that everybody ought to know that such behavior or attitude is wrong, but living at a time when many people are bent on amassing and accumulating wealth, that even their great- grand - children will not be able to finish, and still they trample on others, and sometimes do the unthinkable to get that, such timely reminders are essential to help one to stay on the right course

The whole lesson brought back a memory of an incident I witnessed some years back.

It was in Aba, around the township stadium. Some young men used to come with empty cartons that they put on top of each other, and they will be using 3 cards that resemble the one we use to play 'WHOT', I guess you understand the one I mean.

Something like this

Then they used to say, 'See the card I will pay you with, if you pick this card, you chop my money, if you pick the other card, you lose your money'. Now I believe you get the picture.

So, on that particular day during the holiday period, a full grown man who supposed to be a father given his age was on his way to the market there, saw these boys or men and decided to give their offer a try, perhaps hoping to increase his money.

After few attempts, he lost a reasonable amount he budgeted for the holiday purchases, he sorrowfully told them that this was the money he wanted to use to buy stuffs for his family, and one of them was '"kind" enough to tell him that they were there to wait for those who are coming to make holiday purchases.
Quite sad.

I tried to imagine what the man would have told his family, who were waiting with high hopes for their Father to come back with a lot of goodies.

So sad

Perhaps, he might have told them that pick pockets stole his money or something like that.

The sad consequences of greed, and how it can wreck one's life. It was a reminder taken to heart seriously.

Later on, in the afternoon, I went out with some friends to have some moments of relaxation. After all, all works and no play - you know the implications

Finally , as the day was winding down, those of us on Steemalive Enugu had a brief Zoom meeting with our city coordinator, and that concludes the day's activity.

Another day is gone, with some useful lessons or call it timely reminders, and looking forward to another day and week of activity.

Thanks friends and have a fruitful week ahead.

I don't understand what the world is turning into

The situation is bad, however we should not lose hope, there will definitely be an end to the condition

My dear brother, greediness is too bad. And we should guide against it so as not to fall victims just like David and Eve

Glad for citing those bad examples we should run away from
