Steemcampuk was a blast! It also brought a huge slice of karma too...
WAKE-UP IT'S TIME TO GO TO STEEMCAMP!!
So off I went, to catch the train to the land of the Brummie and all was going smoothly...
("Brummie" = Birmingham folk, to those not familiar with the UK slanguage)
I was wide awake and had been up long enough to have at least 3 cups of tea(You don't want to see me before my first cuppa, believe me! 😨).
Now here is where it all went a little bit "Pete Tong"(Wrong)...
There was no chance I was jumping on a train to Birmingham, with the chance of some Jobsworth(Wanker) trying to give me a fine for not already having a ticket.
(I doesn't take much imagination to think of my response to this miscarriage of justice)
You like what I did there? I said miscarriage and we were speaking about trains!
Oh my genius. Bet they can't wait for me to get there - 🙉
Instead, I decided to do what every Brit does when faced with a dilemma...I put the kettle on and had a cuppa-tea!
Once Mr Tetley had done his magic, I finally set off at around 10:50am and arrived an hour later. After receiving the 5th different sets of directions from the locals, I managed to use my spider-senses to navigate through the back-alleys and find the Building nobody in Birmingham knows exists!
"The Impact Hub... No sorry, never heard of that. Oxford street is that way though"...
(Hmmm😕)
Bloody love this place... Whether by land sea or air I will always get lost in Birmingham City.

I was finally there! The impact Hub does exist! I told you so, Birmingham!
The last time I turned up 2 hours late for a meeting, I was greeted with glares and suspicious questions. Well not Today, Jack! After walking onto what looked like a scene from the coffee shop in "Friends"(or whichever chummy sitcom you are familiar with), I placed my jacket down, politely nodded at the eyes that caught my gaze and waited for a chance to say hello.
Before @lloyddavis could halt the chat and welcome his late arrival to the group, a slightly familiar face popped up in front of mine, adored with a huge smile.
(@redrica 😁) "Hi, how are you. I've just got here too, about 15 mins ago"
And this was my first ever experience of meeting another real life steemian! And I can't think of a better way.
I was made to feel at ease the moment I walked in and after swapping names and talking of the previous nights MSP-waves show, I was introduced to the rest of the group.
On the guest list was:
@beautifulbullies, @dobsdies, @cryptofunk, @dayleeo, @redrica, @revisesociology, @rimicane, @shanibeer, @slobberchops, @bingbabe, @steevc, @teamhumble, and @ultravioletmag.
(Thank you all for making this such an entertaining day)

What a pleasant, intelligent, unusual, intriguing, thoughtful(They had tea, lots of tea!) bunch of people they all were.
We had young and old in attendance, we had women and men, husband and wife, sister and brother, Jesus!!! H!! Christ!! Well not exactly "in the flesh", but we did have @teamhumble and he was almost as insightful as J.C.
Would you ever find this kind of interaction between such a varied group from a main stream social media website? I think not. Only steemit is able to conjure such willing to understand one another.
Meeting all these different steemian, face to face, has now made my experience on steemit that much more special than it already was. Remember, steemit has not taken off in the UK, like it has in the US and to have folk travel from all over the UK, just to meet up together for a chat, is inspiring. This has also made my task of advertising steemit at my local crypto/blockchain info drop-in event all the more easy to do. I was already spoiled for choice as to how to sell steemit.com to those who have never looked into crypto-currencies, but now I am just swimming in a sea of fantastic evidence that proves that signing up to steemit is a no-brainer.
So I will end this post with a photo from the day and a fond farewell to every steemian out there. If ever there is an event near you and you are unsure whether to go, JUST GO! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

Big thanks to @lloyddavis for putting on this event and if you would like to join me in a show of appreciation, I am sure #steemcampuk would be more than willing to do this again
(Even though it left the organisers down, by nearly £200)
It would be great to recoup this money for @lloyddavis, not because he is destitute and living under a bridge, but because it would be nice to think that this event was not only appreciated by those who went, but also by every other honourable steemian out there. These event are the building blocks to making this site great and I hope they are all done with such warmth and acceptance.
Must give a shout out to @pennsif too. Although he couldn't make it today, he has been sending smoke signals like Sitting-Bull on Bonfire night! What a great effort he has made to promote this event and he is the only reason that I found out about it. Great work buddy, hope to see you next time.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention the good Karma I received after to pushing through today's more trying moments...
As well as meeting some brilliant people today, when I returned home tonight I switched on steemit to find out that I have just past another milestone and been promoted to reputation-level 60!! WAHOO!
Been grafting away for ages to get this far and look forward to reaching more milestones in the very distant future 😝

Good to know there's other insomniacs out there like me who are posting articles at unearthly times in the morning (3.45am).
Until recently I was sleeping quite peacefully and should be asleep right now but thanks to someone leaving their phone on (nudge @bingbabe), I was rudely awakened by a phone notification.
I don't think Ill do an article on the Steemfest as then we will have 15 articles about it instead of 14. I will however read everyone else's of course and comment. It was great to meet you @article61 and all the others who attended.
So now I'm back to drinking my hot chocolate in the hope I will pass out over the keyboard and be in a fit state to do things tomorrow.
Congrats on your (60)!
lol I thought someone would comment on the time of the post. Haha my sleep pattern is a mess but last night was UFC fight night and I was putting matchsticks in my eyes to stay up to watch it(The matchsticks broke not long after posting). Thought the mornings events would supply an entertaining story, but I get what you mean about 15 posts. I'll sit back and leave the next one to you ;)
Hope the Hot chocolate worked.
"not because he is destitute and living under a bridge" made me laugh! It was great meeting you and next time I am sure we will all learn something new about Steemit and real people behind it! And well done on a new achievement! Woohoo!
That gave me a little giggle too and I never saw him get on a train so maybe it is true... ;)
Yes the chat was random at times but I learned so much. Was perfect for someone at my level(Novice) and I can't wait to start using some of the add-ons that were recommended.
Cheers for the support @rimcane was great to meet you
You may have missed the 'rules' Lloyd told us about. One of them should be 'whenever you turn up is the right time' :) It was a fun day and my head is still buzzing from all the conversations. I think you learn more about people in a few minutes face to face than in weeks of blogs. Hope to see you again some time
he is a unique fella, but you all were I suppose. It was a great day and wish I had more time to talk to all of you. Will have to start following you guys a bit more closely now I know you are around. I have been missing a whole under-current of UK steeians and it is great to find you all.
The UK Steemit scene may be bigger than you think. I hope your event goes well.
totally underestimated it.
hey, following and i'm sure we will talk further. it was great to meet another new steemian face and congrats on level 60! :) i know how much a jump from 59 to 60 that can feel! :)
Thanks buddy, yes a milestone worth mentioning and the timing was just perfect. We will certainly have to carry on with a few of our chats. The off-grid living is fascinating to me and would love to find out ways of achieving this. Thanks for the advice about the school project too. The meet-up was invaluable for me. Take care buddy and speak soon
Looks like you all had a great day!!! Hopefully make it to the next one
Hope so too. Would be great to do this again and meet even more steemians.
What a great recollection of the day (and congrats on hitting 60)! It was great meeting you, and really cool that it was after having a few chats on MSP waves. Glad we got to chat a bit and get to know each other on Sat, and looking forward to doing more of that on Steemit and Discord!
I told my husband to check out UK column as per your recommendation, he had a skim and is very intrigued. I'll hopefully have time to check it out properly myself! Anyway, I'm off to try and do my steemcamp post (or at least the draft!!). Take care for now :)
Thank you and right back at you. Was a fun day and will have to meet up again. I'm glad your Husband found the link of interest and there is also a very good writer named Connor James Wilkinson. He does some really good article on UK politics/brexit. He has his own website called denouncethedeception and it is who I used to write for before coming to steemit. I've tried to get him on here but he say's he is happy for me to share his work on here. I should post more tbh as it is great work but not my own so bit weird... You should get your husband to come along next time as it is always good to find another UK politics nerd.
Speak soon on discord or something.
The time will come when he can start joining meetups with me as well, not always easy with childcare arrangements, and since he's way less active on Steemit, it makes sense that I get to go to Steemit events for now!
I'm thinking of doing some family friendly meetups at some point though, which could solve this issue, especially knowing quite a few of us have kids anyway, might be a good idea :)
That would be a great idea. I would love my daughter to see the PEOPLE behind all this that her dad does. They still think this is a cult. lol Serious, that is what they have said :/
Be great when we all get to meet up again.
