My beloved is mine and I am his! He feeds among the lilies.
My beloved is mine and I am his! He feeds among the lilies. "
This song of Solomon expresses the highest spiritual state of the relationship that exists between the Lord Jesus Christ and the believer. No other book of the Bible represents this relationship better than the Song of Songs, and on a higher level than this one. The phrase My beloved is mine and I his is one of the deepest theological truths, which the Lord Jesus expressed in seven simple words, in John 14:20, when he said: you in me and I in you. And in our passage today we have seen that the wife said my beloved is mine, and I am his,
Actually, the Lord Jesus Christ said: "Here on earth, I took your place when I died on the cross, I am in you, now you have to show my life here on earth." (Of course, we can only do it in the power of the Holy Spirit). But we are in Him, up there, in another dimension, sitting in the heavenly places, accepted in the Beloved, united to Him, resurrected with Christ. The apostle Paul said in Colossians 3: 1, 1 "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. This is a wonderful statement in reality. Dear listener, if you are a child of God, you should tell him that you love him.
You and I live on a day when we may not have much of the riches of this world, however, from a spiritual point of view, we are rich. In His infinite grace, He has made us rich. The apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:21 to 23: So let no one boast in men, because everything is yours: either Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or what is present, or what is to come, is all yours, and you are of Christ, and Christ of God. That is, we belong to Christ. And He is ours. He belongs to us; He is our Savior. The Lord our Shepherd. We should get close to Him to appropriate these glorious spiritual blessings that belong to us. And, truly, we have reached a high level of spiritual life when you and I can say: My beloved is mine, and I am his.
Then we see another beautiful image in the phrase He feeds among lilies. He speaks to us again of the flower-covered prie-dieu on which he sat before the banquet table. It speaks of satisfaction, of communion, of joy and of everything that is wonderful. The world is looking for these things. People are trying to have a great time. Well, let's do it then, and enjoy life by sitting at the table of Christ and rejoicing in Him. This would be a high spiritual level. We fear that many of us would have to make our own the psalmist's words in Psalm 139: 6, when he said I can not reach him.
Then we have to cry out as the wife did and say: Take me after you! Let's run! We can not run the race that stretches before us until we not only see Jesus, but we appropriate His power in our lives. Then we can say, like the wife of the story, My beloved is mine and I am his.
