Discernment gives us the ability to make the best decisions.

There are believers who are in better harmony with God. How do they achieve this? Through frequent study of the word of God and a life of prayer.

Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look forward to these things, be diligent to be found of Him blameless and blameless, in peace. 15 And consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given to him, 16 as in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, among which are some things hard to understand, which the unlearned and unstable twist, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard lest you be carried away with the error of the wicked and fall from your own steadfastness. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

2 Peter 3:14-18

One way to be protected from deception is through spiritual discernment. The temptations that lead us to sin are usually disguised and do not appear as something bad, and if we are guided by our feelings and think that something seems good or not right, we can fall and be deceived by our enemy.

Spiritual discernment is that ability given by God to discern, to understand what is right or wrong, if we turn a deaf ear or ignore the voice of the Holy Spirit that guides us, unfortunately we are damaging our life and our path is not the best. We need to permanently connect with the Holy Spirit to have full certainty and security that the decisions we are making are based on the word of God and above all His will, that gives us rest and security.

Sometimes opportunities arise and these can be harmless and very attractive, but if we listen or pay attention to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and invites us not to follow that opportunity, it has a reason for being. Let us remember that God always wants only the good for us, and although it may seem impressive to us, simply obeying the voice of God through his Holy Spirit can avoid great troubles or dangers.

For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing him, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all patience and longsuffering; 12 with joy giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light; 13 who has delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son of his love, 14 in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:9-14

Sin does not present itself as something tragic, harmful or ugly, it comes wrapped in the best package. Discernment gives us the ability to see far beyond the wrapping and the beauty with which it is presented. Biblical truths create that ability in us. Let us remember to have a routine of prayer and study of the Word, this is the key to developing spiritual discernment and also a sensitive ear to the voice of the Holy Spirit.
