Does grief serve any purpose?

That day will come when we will look back and simply praise God for all the trials we have endured that have shaped our character.

It is good for me that I have been afflicted,
so that I may learn your statutes.

72 The law from your mouth is more precious to me
than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.

73 Your hands made me and formed me;

Give me understanding, that I may learn your commandments.

74 Those who fear you will see me and be glad,
because I have put my hope in your word.

75 I know, O Lord, that your judgments are right,
and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.

76 Now let your mercy comfort me,
according to your promise to your servant.

Psalm 119:71-76

David rejoiced in trials because they gave him a greater knowledge of God. Furthermore, the experience enriched his spirit and heart. For David, there were greater riches than gold and silver, and these consisted of God's grace and justice upon him. All the situations he experienced were very important lessons!
Afflictions are not simply difficult moments; afflictions profoundly impact the lives of believers. David constantly sought God during his flight from Saul's persecution, and this strengthened his faith. David began with the victory over Goliath, ascended to the throne, and became a great warrior, prophet, and servant of God. The worst moments forged him.
The best lessons of dependence on God and perseverance were learned in the midst of struggles. Even when the Lord tested his faith, He offered him comfort. We go through afflictions, we receive comfort, and thus we learn to comfort others.

Show me a sign of your favor,

Let my enemies see it and be put to shame;

For you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

Psalm 86:17

We must share the message with people; we must proclaim the sufficiency of God, who can supply our needs, even if we are in the deepest pit, full of difficulties and obstacles with much suffering.

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.

2 Corinthians 2:14

Let us always remember that we are a fragrant aroma here on earth; we carry the perfume of God; we bring life and joy to the afflicted and hopeless through the good news of salvation.
