Druids Farm; A Steem Powered Venture
Asking me to post more about the druids farm.
Druids Farm
The poultry uses a deep litter housing system based on repetitive layers of wood shavings to serve as bedding for the birds.
The beddings are usually made 2 meters thick to provide warmth for the birds.
I adopted the DL system because it allows rearing a large number of birds and increases the birds resistance to diseases especially to coccidiosis.
The poultry consist of 80 Point Of Layer Chicks Which were 4-6 weeks old during purchase, the birds produce at least 2 crates of eggs daily.
The project started February with zero mortality so far though there was a setback in mid march, a severe rainstorm which damaged the roofing and building of the poultry.
The birds were moved into another cubicle before construction of the main poultry begins.
Gathering Wood Shavings
The Poultry is cleaned monthly on saturdays and the litter removed.
The litter is dried and allowed to compost to serve as manure, chicken manure is high in nitrogen content and when combined with other fertilizers produces high quality garden food.
Effort is being made to reconstruct and expand the farm.
Funding The Fish Farm
Recently applied for funding to start the Fish farm through a Student innovation challenge, i pray my submission is considered and the funding approved.
@sirknight has been a tremendous support over the past months considering the fact that 98% of my posts have been on the steemchurch and celestial challenge tags.
All post pay-outs are directed towards enlarging the farm and hopefully employing more workers with time.
