The "gospel of shelves" story is not common, its expression obviously has no meaning when the allusion portrays the Good News of Christ. There is an inversion of positioning in terms of biblical authority. Instead of submission to the Word of God, they subject and try to condition the Scriptures to their own behavior even if they are condemned by the Word. They follow an entrusted gospel that condenses with impiety; they listen to preachings that conform to the works of the flesh. They apply to ideological and illogical teachings of the businessmen of the faith who make up the "modern believer" a commonly secular life, objectively capitalist and necessarily consumerist, thereby guaranteeing a lot of money to those who sell these modern indulgences.

The Gospel is not an elaborated product for our satisfaction as consumers; before it is the good news of salvation for our transformation of life. It includes abandoning what is sin and sticking to what is true, honest, just, pure, kind, of good reputation, virtuous and courageous. Living the Gospel of the Cross requires yes a heavy and radical election sustained by faith in Jesus Christ; his experience is not given by the act of buying and selling, but by the grace of God and by the decision to renounce the old way of life and the abnegation of walking to the end by following and serving Christ.
