Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

I have been doing a series on God’s Word, every day now for quite a few days. So many people with so many different beliefs. It is OK, as long as those beliefs are solidly based on God’s Word and not the “Traditions of men”, or worse, “The doctrines of demons”. It is of utmost importance for all of us to know God’s Word for ourselves. This is the only safety net we have from deception. The next step to being deceived ourselves is to pass that same deception on to our children and to others outside of our family.

Here the writer of Acts says something about the Bereans, they were given praise for searching the scriptures to find out if what the Apostle Paul preached was scriptural. This is amazing! People get uptight when you question their beliefs. Here people are given points for checking out the Apostle Paul to see if he is teaching sound doctrine.

Paul here is telling Timothy (and us) what to expect from the people in the “Last Days”.

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Sorry to say, but much of what we do in many of our churches is based on fables and not of sound doctrine. This comes about and survives because God’s people don’t search the scriptures. We should be like the Bereans and test everything and only hold to that which is good.

1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

We Honor Men, Leaders, Clergy, Our Favorite Teacher or Denominational Doctrines Over God and His Word

We are told that the Bible is difficult to understand and that there are only a few selected by God that can interpret the scriptures.

Why would anyone tell us this?

TO DISCOURAGE US FROM FINDING OUT THE TRUTH!!!

There is only ONE true Teacher of God’s Word! That is the Holy Spirit. Any believer in Christ can sit down, open their bible, pray for God to help them understand and study the scriptures.

Compare what you currently practice with the Bible

ASK THESE QUESTIONS

• Can you find these practices in the Life of Jesus?

Jesus came to give His life a ransome for sinners. But He also came to gice us the perfect example of true worship. He came to shoe us what a life of full dedication to God looks like. If Jesus did not practice it, why should we?

• Can you find our (yours & mine) practices concerning our worship of God, commmaded or taught in the Bible?

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good work

ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING IS CONTAINED IN THE HOLY BIBLE
IF IT IS NOT IN THE BIBLE, IT IS NOT OF GOD, BUT OF MEN

• Can you find the early church practicing the same thing?

Jesus is our main example! He was also the Main Example to the Apostles and early disciples. The Early Church based their worship and all of their practices on the teachings of Jesus that they heard firsthand. They built this Church as early believers, led by the Holy Spirit. They did not practice things outside of God’s Word.

IT IS OK TO TEST EVERYTHJNG! IN FACT IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY!

One day we will stand before God! Every last one of us will! No exceptions!

Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

When asked by the Lord why we did things the way we did. Why we worshipped in a way outside of biblical worship. What are we going to tell Him?

• “Lord, this is what they taught in our church!”

• “Lord, this is what I learned from a teacher on TV or a pastor or priest”

• “Lord.....,”

• WHEN IF WE HAVE A BIBLE WE CAN READ IT FOR OURSELVES

• IF YOU DONT HAVE A BIBLE BEGIN TO PRAY FOR ONE AND MAKE IT YOUR PRIORITY TO OBTAIN ONE

The Bible is actually pretty easy to understand. Start in the Book of John and prayerful read a little at a time. Think about what you read during the day. Ask God to teach you!

There are two things that I would give anyone! I have been like this all of my Christian life! I was not like this before I met Jesus, so all credit, praise and honor goes to Him.
But I would, every time, to anyone, give them something to eat. Not if they agree with me, or have the same skin color. There is no requirement except you are a human being and you have been made in the image and likeness of God.
In the same way, I would give anyone a Bible.

I will end this article with the Words of Jesus

Mat 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
