"gods" in the middle of Christians.

Idolatry in the midst of the people of Israel was undoubtedly one of the most serious disobediences of terrible consequences in the history of his people. The clear order of the Eternal God was that there was no form of idolatry to any "god".

However, faced with their faults and the lack of a "move" of the Eternal, according to their expectations, the people ended up traveling the "shortest" way, in search of the most pleasant response, instead of obedience to the order of the one God. I wanted to free them from evil, besides making them "grow".

It was like today; the will to be attended to, greater than the "surrender" entrusted, in the words confirmed by signs and in the very act of God in the midst of his people.

There was, however, in spite of the hardness of the people's heart, an awareness that the one God was not bound to sensations, or pagan rites. Regardless of that, out of fear, or fear, they knew that they should obey.

It is important to remember that God manifested himself to his servants, but that was not a constant; there was the period of "learning"; The "desert" period. There were the prophets and with them, obedience to the one God; what strengthened their trustworthiness before the people, for this same God. Moreover, they were, in their obedience, the very example to those who heard.

The speaking of the Most High God to the prophet came from the call, but also, after it, through a relationship with the called servant. However, this same God who was related to the extent that the servant was willing, also kept quiet, to deal with it.

In two special moments, the Lord was silent:

1- sin of people and the other, for people to learn something for their growth.

2- God wanting to break the "hard" heart in the midst of his people. Like today, it allows us, for the same growth in his will.

Independent of instant miracles, operating in the midst of his people, God treats us in a personalized and gradual way; Doing this, something practical or religious is a tremendous mistake.
Because of their resistance to denying "treatment" at certain times, the people of Israel were plundered, killed, victimized by their own sin in idolizing what could "satisfy" their urgent desires.

In occult, without observance of the law, without obedience to the prophets, they surrender to what they heard from other peoples, mingling with pagan habits in various ways, on the other, many brought gods with their belongings, or with their practices.

The reading was clear. Besides her, there was the knowledge of the consequence of disobedience. The people of God were aware of all this. If they did not attack the theory, with certainty, the practice and its terrible consequence made them know.

But why did they do it? What is the reason that leads a person to worship a "god" or a practice?
It was enough for the people not to have the answer, according to what they expected, that a strange god was "adored".
A terrible infidelity in the marriage between God and his people. The God who made himself present in the midst of the town, with care, miracles and signs, but above all, rescued and protected him, was left aside, facing difficulties.

Today, what leads us to "adore" and "worship" what can "take" us away from the "desert" feeling that the Lord allows us?

For various reasons, what leads to "adoration" or simply confidence in a "god" or situation is the expectation in seeing in these the quick "response"; the glimpse of what we know as pleasant; or, something that leads us to alleviate or satisfy the need, accustomed to being satiated. It can be a habit or way of life. It can be a limited life vision of which we have control

No matter. The consequence is always the same when we launch a habit instead of total surrender to the God of our life, which is nothing more than the habit of the new man. God did not do this to us and it does not make us accustomed to this practice either; It is a human thing, natural to the man who lost the tree of life in Eden.

"I say it, and I require in the Lord, that from now on you do not walk as well as the other Gentiles, who walk in the vanity of your mind." (Ephesians 4:17)

"But you have not learned Christ that way, if you have heard, and in it you were taught, as the truth is in Jesus, that, as for the past deal, you are stripped of the old man, who is corrupted by the lusts of deceit, and we renew you in the spirit of your mind. "(Eph 4: 20 a 23)

God, it leads us to depend on him, simply. He always leads us to a life free of sensations, but covered with certainties; like the ones Adam had.

"And you review the new man, who according to God is created in true justice and holiness." (Ephesians 4:24)

Neither religiosity nor money; projects, goods, loves, or passions; earthly security, or any other, may become a "god" who, "satisfying" our expectation, takes away from pure and simple dependence and faithful love to the true God. Not in our life, much less in our hearts.

In us, in times of false freedom, to see what is or what are the "gods" that we bring with us in secret, still publicly in habits that take us away from true adoration and that still imprison us, preventing a life of true conquests for the kingdom of the only God.

Idolatry is present whenever people give rise to greed and materialism, instead of trusting in God alone.

Finally, it occurs within the church, when its members believe that, at the same time, they can serve God, enjoy the experience of salvation and divine blessings, and also participate in the immoral and ungodly practices of the world.
