GIDEON AND THE 300 SQUAD
THE BATTLE SELECTION
Gideon was one of the biblical characters who displayed the exploit of faith through combat. He with his 300 squad defeated thousands of armies raging against them. That is, he through faith subdued kingdoms not with swords of fate but with the sword of faith, he was one of those who fought not with skill but out of the spirit, a man who took over kingdoms not with the strength of an army but with sensitivity to the spirit.
It is imperative to say that every battle fought and every victory is guaranteed by strength and strategies. See, every human endeavours are achieved through a reasonable and concerted effort. Be that as it may, the workings and exploits of faith are way different. What this portends is that the exploit of faith or faith combat virtually are fought outside the conventional combative standards. One who must functions in the exploit of faith must be prepared to receive weird instructions from the spirit for outstanding victory and exploits. The point being made is that those who mist functions in the exploit of faith must be prepared to go out of the conventional ways to get results. They must be prepared to listen and act accordimgly, even when such instructions are illogical and ridiculous.
This was the position Gideon and his 300 found themselves. As it was written:
Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod; so that the host of the midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of moreh, in the valley. And the lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the midianites into their hands, lest Isreal vaunt themselves against me, saying, mine own hand hath saves me, Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and dapart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand. And the lord said unto Gideon, the people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water , and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be that who, that of whom i say unto thee, this shall go with the, the same shall go with the; and of whomsoever I say I say unto thee, This shall not go with , the same shall not go. So he brought down the people unto the water; and the lord said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself, likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink. And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men. But all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water**. Judges 7: 1-6.
THE BATTLE STRATEGY
One would wonder why instead of increasing the numbers to match those of the other midianites, God instructed him to reduce them and Gideon unreasonably consented to it. Every rational man will object but not him, he obeyed every instruction to the later without fear of defeat. He was given just 300 hundred men to fight against the host of the ferocious Midian army but his faith was undaunted. And to add to this the method of the combat was unheard of and unrecorded. As was captured in scriptures.
And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man's hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers. So Gideon, and the three hundred men that were with him, came unto the camp outside of the camp in the biginning of the middle watch and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands. And three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the lord and of Gideon Judges 7:16-21.
FAITH'S VICTORY
Flowing from above as they followed the lords instructions by faith which obviously seemed ridiculous, their victory was guaranteed. Come to think of it , who goes to war with a trumpet, pitchers and lamps but Gideon and his radical 300 squad. Numerical/warfare strenght were of no moment here because the victory will not be that which men would apportion to themselves. God had set the standard and parameter for victory. It was ridiculous for only Gideon and his 300 to be chosen to fight against hundreds of thousands of the midianites, the amalekites and their allies. It is much more ridiculous for this 300 to be sent to the battle field without weapons but a trumpet, pitcher and lamp. What a magnanimous display of foolishness and mission impossible. However, these men never quivered, being consumed by faith; they acted swiftly. They were only mandated to blow their trumpet, break their pitcher and lighten their lamp but what was to happen to the overwhelming host of their enemies; they were never privy to that ,yet; they acted accordingly.
Honey, the limitation or problem to the exploits of faith is that we utmost want to be armed with the "how will it end" and as such, the impetus to act. As good as this may seem, but many a time; the lord will want those who are ready to embark on the exploits of faith to act not even knowing how it will end: to the end that your confidence will rest on Him because you have no other thing or person to rely on except Him.
Beloved, in this combat, faith is the weapon while trust guarantees the victory. It is not faking it, neither is it a trial by error but acting accordingly with confidence and trust, knowing fully well that faithful is He who had promised or sent and who also will perform or fulfil it.
Nice one @okojiebenjamin, it's such a well articulated post about the exploit of faith through combat.
This went deep with in: Beloved, in this combat, faith is the weapon while trust guarantees the victory.
