Let's die the earthly in us

1.- What is earthly?

We read in the Word of God that says: "Put to death, then, the earthly in you". The earthly are all the things that we do that in Galatians 5: 19-21 are considered as works of the flesh, behaviors that are not pleasing to God, and that we should propose not to repeat them in our lives, in our behavior as believers in Jesus Christ.

We must know what are the things that God does not approve and then discard them. Hence, it is necessary to read the Bible to know its will that has been declared. Colossians 3: 5-9 ends by saying things considered earthly or of the flesh. See also Galatians 5: 19-21.

  • Fornication
  • Impurity
  • Messy passions
  • Bad wishes
  • Greed
  • Anger
  • Malice
  • Blasphemy
  • Dishonest words
  • Lies
  • Adultery
  • Filth
  • Lasciviousness
  • Idolatry
  • Witchcraft
  • Enemistades
  • Lawsuits
  • Jealousy
  • Concerns
  • Dissensions
  • Heresies
  • Envy
  • Homicide
  • Drunkenness
  • Orgies
  • Things similar to these.

The Bible warns that "... those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God" (Galatians 5:21). Let's look carefully at the above. God cleanse us from all evil.

2.- How to make the earthly thing die in us?

Notice that there is an order. "Make the earth die" (VRV1960). Let's see how other versions say it: "put to death all that is proper to earthly nature" (NIV), "give death to all your evil desires" (TLA), "consider the members of your earthly body as dead" (HNV revised). ). In 1 Peter 2:11 we read: "Beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, that you abstain from the fleshly desires that war against the soul." In 1 Thessalonians 5:22 we find the following recommendation: "Abstain from all manner of evil."

We realize that there is something the believer must do to not give in to the force of sin. It is God's will that we make the earthly or carnal die. There are things we can do like the following:

a) Find the forces in power God. Ef. 6: 10-13; Ga. 5: 1.

We can not overcome sin with our own strengths; we must go to God to strengthen us and give us the tools that allow us to be overcomers, and not succumb to the impact of sin.

b) Dressing in the new man. Col. 3: 10-17.

This new man created in Christ is being renewed until full knowledge. In his life he develops mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, enduring brothers, forgiveness and love. This new man is nourished by the Word of God, and whatever he does, whether in word or deed, he does it in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father.

It is necessary to equip ourselves with all the tools that God gives us to emerge victorious: with truth, justice, the gospel of peace, faith, based on the word of God, in prayer.

c) Go to God when you feel tempted. Stg. 4: 7.

We must seek God even when we do not perceive temptation. The Bible says: "Submit yourselves to God; Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. "

3.- Conclusion

When a person becomes a Christ, he becomes a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17). It means there are things you should leave and things you should take. That we must change our mentality (Eph 4: 23-24). It's not the same anymore. It changes the structure of thought, because now it has to be ordered according to the guidelines of heaven, which are very different from those used by men. See reality from God's perspective, and not from men.

Whoever comes to Christ, and continues as if nothing happened, with an abandoned life and marching to the rhythm of the moment, should review his relationship with God. It should not be that I am with the brothers today, and tomorrow I am with the unconverted.

The believer must advance each day towards a closer encounter with the author of his salvation. to depend on him, we must necessarily abandon thoughts and practices that prevent us from being in contact with the savior.

Consider what you read, and the Lord gives you understanding in everything.

19 And manifest are the works of the flesh, which are: adultery, fornication, filth, lewdness,
20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, strife, dissensions, heresies,
21 envy, homicide, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; about which I admonish you, as I have told you before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Ga. 5: 19-21.

11 Beloved ones, I beg you as foreigners and pilgrims, that you abstain from the carnal desires that battle against the soul. 1 Pet. 2:11.

5 Put to death, then, the earthly in you: fornication, impurity, disordered passions, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. (Col 3: 5, VRV1960).

Therefore, put to death all that is proper to earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, low passions, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. (Col 3: 5, NIV)

Therefore, give death to all your evil desires; do not have forbidden sexual relations, do not be indecent, dominate their evil desires, and do not seek to accumulate money, because it is the same as worshiping false gods. (Col 3: 5, TLA).

Therefore, consider the members of your earthly body as dead to fornication, impurity, passions, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. (Col 3: 5, NIV)

8 But now you also leave all these things: anger, anger, malice, blasphemy, dishonest words from your mouth.
9 Do not lie to one another, having stripped yourselves of the old man with his deeds. Col. 3: 8-9.

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, of tender mercy, of kindness, of humility, of meekness, of patience;
13 supporting one another, and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another. In the way that Christ forgave you, so also do you.
14 And on all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be grateful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.
17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Col. 3: 12-17.

13 Therefore, take all the armor of God, so that you can resist in the bad day, and having finished everything, be firm.
14 Stand firm then, with your loins girt about with the truth, and clothed with the breastplate of righteousness,
15 and shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.
16 Above all, take the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the fiery darts of the evil one.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
18 praying at all times with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching over it with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. Ef. 6: 13-18.

17 So if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things happened; behold, all are made new. 2 Cor 5:17.

7 Submit yourself, then, to God; Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Stg. 4: 7

So that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things happened; behold, all are made new. 2 Co.: 17.

23 and renew yourselves in the spirit of your mind,
24 and put on the new man, created according to God in righteousness and holiness of truth. EF. 4: 23-24.

19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, which is in you, which you have of God, and that you are not yours?
20 For you have been bought with a price; glorify, then, God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Co. 6: 19-20.
