I-its not like I dislike you...

in #steemcommunity8 years ago

It is easier for me to say things I like than things I don't like most of the time, especially online. After all, people who hold different opinions would inevitably get involved and show their supremacy by ganging up on you, you are fortunate if there are people that will take your side and you can then proceed to waste the next minute or even hour of your precious life arguing about something that could not even be solved at the end of the day because it is "opinion" for Pete's sake.

However, since this week's topic is "What Did You Dislike About Steemit?" then I must gear up for war and prepare my fire resistant suit so that I could have a shot at the pot money while staying alive because god knows how many people will flame me for speaking bluntly. Anyway I will bid your forgiveness this early in the game and I won't stop you from expressing your side but keep it civil as much as possible. Well then, let's begin!

What Did I Dislike About Steemit?

I started my steemit journey more than 4 months ago but I only got to explore it in earnest only for a month or two. One could say that I am quite the new blood but a newcomer's opinion has its own merit too and who knows? maybe a newbie's perspective could shed light to a long standing problem that veterans choose to ignore.

First are the people in the platform. If you read my entry last week you might be thinking that I am smoking something potent because I stated there that the people of steemit is one of the reasons that makes me passionate about the platform. That's my bad for not making it clear, so allow me to explain. I have been classifying people I see in the platform to different categories such as community driven, selfless craftiness, passionate, money oriented, etc. and the one I am referring to for this particular topic are those that fall into my "money oriented" classification. As for how I would classify myself, I would leave that to your imagination guys.

So what do I mean by money oriented? I am merely speaking from my experience so I do no know if everyone may be able to relate but I think if you have stayed for more than a week in the platform there is a big chance that you've already stumbled upon comments like this one

"I gave you an upvote on your post! Please give me a follow and I will give you a follow in return and possible future votes!"

or something along those lines. Though I don't mind having mutual support (this is coming from a person with almost nonexistent upvote value lol) the way it was worded just ticks me off for some reason. I, too, am lured in this platform because of money, but it is not something you beg for, it is something you earn. Not to mention that this type of people are the ones that will only show up in a single post then vanish for eternity making it harder for me to take people who comment like this seriously. But you know what's worse than this type? Those that will comment frivolous things then proceed to upvote... their own comment... with value exceeding your own post... by a big margin. It is like rubbing salt to the injury, you guys are the real deal so please do it elsewhere 'cause you're grinding my gears.

My other qualm is that fame plays a big factor in here. I am fully aware that getting famous in steemit (or maybe in all other social networking / blogging sites for that matter) is no small feat. However what I am trying to say here is that does that mean everything they would post including senseless stuff would guarantee them to rack up lots of upvotes just because they are famous? In that sense steemit doesn't look any different than any other social media platform except for the fact that we're getting paid here.

I don't want to sound too antagonizing so I will end it here for today. But before that, can you guys please upvote this and maybe give me a follow too, I promise to return the favor by upvoting you too * teehee *.

This is a really good article you wrote @ascheriit and I for one am so glad you wrote it. You really put it all out there and that's good. No one is a positive ray of sunshine every second of every day. I have gotten the whole I voted for you why aren't you voting for me comment before and it did make me feel some sort of way. I should have said "oh, my bad I thought I was entitled to my own opinion on the platform...lol but I just let it fly because to me it wasn't worth getting into this whole big back and forth argument. I am not here to do that. I am here to post and engage in articles that I find interesting and support people that I choose to follow. This was a great read for me. Nice job.

I am happy to find people that interact with me but there are those that just want to rip people off, the reward has blinded their purpose here and that's saddening.

I am truly thankful for your support and keep up your good work too, your photographs are beautiful and the experiences you share are heart felt.
