ZANY AND THE TINY COLOURED DRAGON
That evening, the sky was turning soft pink and purple. The
birds were going home, and the wind was slow and warm. Everything felt calm,
but Zany still felt a little lonely inside her small chest.
The dragon said, “I came to see you because you looked
lonely.”
Zany felt something warm in her heart.
The dragon fluttered its wings and flew in a tiny circle
around Zany’s head.
“My name is Luna,” it said proudly. “I am a tiny coloured dragon, and I like
children who have kind hearts.”
Zany smiled for the first time that evening.
“Do you want to stay with me this evening?” she asked.
“Yes!” Luna said cheerfully. “Let us spend time together.”
So they did.
Zany showed Luna the whole garden, especially the tall mango
tree, the little stones shaped like hearts, and the place where ants marched
like tiny soldiers.
Luna made everything more magical. When she flew near the
flowers, the petals glowed brighter and brighter. When she danced in the air,
tiny glittering lights followed behind, making Zany giggle.
Zany then showed Luna a small corner of the garden where
tiny mushrooms grew in a circle. Luna landed gently on one of them, making it
glow like a lamp. Zany clapped softly. They listened to the soft croaking of
frogs and watched a snail crawl slowly across a leaf. Luna gently touched it
with her tail, and the snail’s shell shone like a marble. Zany felt calm and
happy.
“You make the whole garden look happy!” Zany said.
Luna smiled and replied, “You make me happy.”
“It feels nice to be seen and to have a friend,” Zany said.
As they walked along, the tiny dragon looked at Zany closely
and asked, “Sometimes you feel sad, don’t you?”
Zany nodded a little and replied, “Yes… and I don’t know
why. I just feel like I don’t belong anywhere. I feel small. I feel quiet. I
feel like I don’t know who I am yet.”
The dragon sat on her shoulder and spoke softly,
“That’s okay. You are growing, you are learning, and you are discovering
yourself.”
Zany whispered, “But it feels lonely.”
“Sometimes growing feels lonely,” the tiny dragon said
gently. “But you are not alone tonight. I am here.”
Zany felt her eyes get warm (not from sadness, but from
comfort).
They sat quietly by the river for a long moment. The night
air felt cool on Zany’s face. Little fireflies drifted around them like tiny
floating stars. Luna curled up in Zany’s hands, warm and soft, humming a gentle
sound that felt like a lullaby. Zany listened to the water moving slowly and
felt her heart grow lighter. She whispered, “I wish this moment could stay
forever,” and Luna nuzzled her thumb as if to tell her it would stay in her
memory.
“Thank you, Luna,” Zany said softly.
“You are welcome,” the dragon replied, patting her cheek
with its tiny tail.
Soon the sky grew darker, and the first stars came out to
watch. Zany yawned a tiny yawn.
The dragon giggled. “It is almost bedtime.”
Zany held the tiny dragon carefully in both hands. “Will I
see you again?”
Luna touched Zany’s hands one more time, leaving a soft
golden glow.
“This glow is my promise,” the dragon said. “I will always find you again. Even
if you cannot see me, I am your friend.”
Zany hugged the tiny dragon gently. “Thank you for this
evening.”
“It is only the beginning,” the tiny dragon whispered.
Luna flapped its tiny wings and flew into the sky, leaving a
trail of coloured sparkles behind. Zany watched until the sparkles faded. She
no longer felt lonely. She no longer felt lost. She felt seen.
And in her mind, Zany knew something magical and wonderful
had begun; something that would grow with her as she grew.
