The Restaurant - A comic

in #steemguild7 years ago

This comic is about the Steem Guild and many will likely say that by posting this piece I am continuing to troll their work. I however have a different opinion...

I see an issue that requires public discussion and a comic is able to reach audiences that a long drawn out essay simply could not.

That being said, please remember that this is just a comic meant to get you thinking. It may contain information that does not 100% represent reality, it ignores some important aspects of the system, and it will likely be interpreted differently depending on the reader.

This comic is not an attack against anyone. It is a call to all reading it to think about the Steem Guild and any possible benefits and/or ramifications associated with having such a system in place.

Enjoy!

"I want what you got." Give people something more than what they had, and they usually don't care about how they got it ;)

Always a good laugh and worth an upvote here!

You're right,it's funny and worth an upvote but still does'nt explain anything at all

Excellent analysis and very humorous!

If everyone got the same, that would be..... communism! I know some people hate any sniff of socialism. Apparently Plato said that the highest paid shouldn't get more than five times the lowest. I think we may be missing that by a bit, but this is what the 'market' wants. The market doesn't care about Martin

Steemit drama aside, this is a very well thought out comic!

I like your comics. You can take a chill pill though since the payment to SG sounds as if it will be changed......
If you think it's bad right now, you should have been here before SG began to distribute rewards around. It was horrible. Steemiciders everywhere........
I would hope that in the future all the guilds will not be needed.......No idea though since this has never been attempted before.

You can take a chill pill though

Do I need a prescription for those?

Skip the chill pill and double down. That's waaaay more edgy. ;)

So, basically, we've moved from a situation that 8 out of 10 Steemians committed Steemicide before the guilds, to now saving like 5 out of 10 Steemians from Steemicide due to the guilds' work. The residual effect however is creating a gamed trending page which turns off new users and also alienates existing intelligent creators. Popularity within the system is valued over everything else, so now we're closer to Black Mirror than ever.

Best episode of Black Mirror to date, IMO.

I can definitely see a parallel between that episode's "universe" and Steemit's. I tend to identify more with the woman truck-driver (don't know her name off of the top of my head) than with Lacy, though...well, that is, until she was jailed.

I have too much pride to bend in any way for popularity/ approval and I have the tendency to go against the grain with the sole aim of "flipping-off the status quo" - a very painful weakness (strength?) to suffer from!

I am mixed, part Lacy part truck driver! I used to be Lacy early in life, straight A's in school, etc. I was very quiet. Obedient. Now, not so much but Lacy is still there in me. I am leaning more and more towards the truck driver, and when I made the Steemicide episode of Dollar Vigilante, that is my true nature coming out.

Funny. That describes me almost to a T!

As I got nearer to graduating high-school, I found it more and more unbearable to make efforts at appealing to the "authorities" and peers: teachers, parents/ grandparents, friends, etc. It got to where I simply couldn't respect myself anymore for being "fake" (charming) - I felt compelled to be "real", even if it meant that I got "rewarded" less than before.

Very well said.

If you sensed a mixed reaction from me, it's because I've turned into lacy:

Whatever system you make it will always be flawed.
What did John Lydgate ; You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.”

I've always been fairly neutral about the guilds. Steemit is not easy and, in my opinion, it helps weed out the quitters. I have no problem taking a few people under my wing - even share my earnings to help boost their confidence and their SP - but I don't know that I would ever fully support equal distribution. The level of persistence, the desire to learn, grow, and change (or at least attempt to use best practices) plus the time and creativity invested to build their community and find their people is solely on the individual -- and should be rewarded. I cannot abide by anyone's sense of displaced entitlement.

Yes ^this^.
