SteemHop - Beware of Bad Session Keys
It was disheartening.
I played my best session of SteemHop ever.
I was completely in rhythm with the game and had two games where I scored over 400 points followed by a game with 700 points.
I wanted to see how the games affected my position on the leader board and so I pressed [alt-back] to see the report for the session and—to my horror—I discovered that the system failed to record my games.
These were my best games ever and they did not record!
After cursing the sky, I went into testing mode. I carefully checked my report after each game. I finally discovered that, if I played with an invalid session id, #steemhop would not record the game.
Since the discovery of this quirk, I've been careful to log out of each session and close my browser. This way I will always have a valid session.
One trick is to record your score after each game and to check to see if they are in the report.
Now for my experiences.
I Was Temporarily Number 1
The graphic shows that I was temporarily in position one in season 16 of the game. The players in position 2, 3, 4 and 5 are better than me; so I don't think I will stay in position one for long. To make the following list, I simply divided the score by numbers of games.
@yintercept - 161 avg
@ternuritajessi - 269 avg
@bokhtiar1444 - 274 avg
@victornavarro - 281 avg
@obikay - 243 avg
I average significantly less per game but played more games. Anyone of those four names would pass me if they played the full allotment of games.
The score comes down to how much time one is willing to spend on it.
Past Experience
I admit, SteemHop has been very good to me.
I've won 217 STEEM in the last eight seasons. At $0.045 per STEEM, my winnings total over $9.76.
It took a great deal of game play to win the money. So, it is not a lucrative way to make a living, but it is better than a poke in the eye with a stick.
I powered up all but 5 STEEM of my winnings. I now have 6,762 STEEM POWER. My upvote is worth $0.0167. I dream of the day when my upvote rises above two pennies. The dream of a two penny upvote is my motivation. It won't happen if STEEM keeps falling. I fear that the 2 penny upvote now happens at 10K STEEM. A person has to be a double dolphin to be guaranteed a payout on a post.
Now for some snarky comments on the game.
Snarky Comments on the Game
I started playing SteemHop with the notion that it might be a fun way to pick up coins in a pastoral setting. Who knows I might find a way to jump to the other side of the road to answer the ultimate question in the world of fowl: "Why did the chicken cross the road?"
After having my character squashed a few thousand times I decided to look around.
In the last post I notices that all of the trains were headed in the same direction and that the traffic alternated with each lane ... which is not an safe way to organize a highway.
I then noticed that there were no train stations. Neither are there off-ramps and service stations for the cars.
I finally realized that Hopperville is not a fun pastoral setting ... it is, in fact, a dystopian hellscape contrived by a demented civil engineer. The passengers in the train are trapped in high speed trains that circle Hopperville. They desperately toss nickels out of the windows of the train hoping to draw attention to their eternal plight to an uncaring world.
As for the existential question that lead me to begin hopping: "There is no other side."
My Stats
Here are my stats for the season so far:
I've had 4 for 1,276 points.
I had four daily logins 4 for 40
I've completed 27 daily tasks 1525
I've completed 187 games for points 27350 . The average score is 146
I wish there was a way to classify the ending of each game. I often end the game. A large number of games end in computer glitches. I lose a large number of games because I accidentally hit the down key when I was trying to press up.
The table shows that I have a big problem starting the game.
| Range | Games | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 0-49 | 51 | 943 |
| 50-99 | 32 | 2277 |
| 100-149 | 32 | 3934 |
| 150-199 | 23 | 3880 |
| 200-249 | 14 | 3074 |
| 250-299 | 11 | 3056 |
| 300-349 | 3 | 970 |
| 350-399 | 8 | 2963 |
| 400-449 | 6 | 2503 |
| 450-499 | 3 | 1374 |
| 500-549 | 0 | 0 |
| 550-599 | 3 | 1737 |
| 600-649 | 1 | 639 |
To all of those trapped in the SteemHop dystopia, I wish you success as you hop on and don't eat a tailpipe.
