Energy harvested from sustainable sources like solar panels is stored in the zinc air batteries . When power is required, the battery discharges electrons from the oxidizing process of the electrochemical energy stored in the zinc with the oxygen in the air. The battery is able to store and discharge energy 1,000s of times without declining performance.
Since it broke the $100 kWh cost barrier, communities around the world can store and generate electricity without the need to depend on fossil fuels and lithium-ion and lead batteries.
