Honest question: If covid had only infected 1% global infection rate, since major record keeping began, and currently, there is about a 70% recovery of that 1%, what's the point? Right now, only about 30% of 1% have covid: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
To have data to monitor & control the infection rate.
