Did you know about this fatty but healthy fruit?

There is no doubt about it, these days fatty foods have got a bit of a bad reputation to put it mildly. But do they all deserve it?

It turns out that the answer is a resounding ‘NO’. In fact ever since they were stigmatised and people started eating more carbs, sugar and processed foods, people have got a lot fatter and sadly more unhealthy.

The truth is that we actually really need some fat in our diets. But as you might expect, what is crucial is choosing the right types and then consuming them as part of a sensible and balanced diet.

Which brings us to...

Avocados

The gorgeous alligator pear (as it is sometimes called) is a little different to most fruits because it is absolutely chock full of good for you fats – instead of carbs!

The principle fat in avocados is oleic acid. This is a mono-unsaturated fat whose consumption has been linked to multiple health benefits such as reducing blood pressure, cholesterol and even possibly breast cancer!

As an aside, avocados are also a great source of fibre and potassium. So anyone fancy going for a Mexican today?

As always do try and source your foods locally and if available try and make sure they are as un-processed as possible, GMO free and organic! It might cost a little more but you will be really helping your community in the long run, as well as seriously improving your long term health prospects.

avocado ruless yeaah. Joke aside, it is really healthy and i eat them often, raw.

My fave! Never heard them called alligator pears! Love that name :)

avocados are great for keto diet

I only recently found out that they were 'fatty' from a recent @paleotreats post. A defo alternative to animal fats.

My favourite. If I see them in our local supermarket (which is rare) I buy the whole lot :-)

I love these so much! I will actually go to Mexican restaurants and just order guacamole to go with the free corn chips they give you and have that as a meal lol. That probably makes it a bit less healthy though...

I know about avocado.... i want some RIGHT NOW~!!!! :(
