You'd be surprised how many accounts you can find if you search free github repos. People tried to create bots/scripts over the years and left the keys in the scripts. I remember reading about this a few years ago, someone actually made a bot to check for the keys in repos, can't remember who exactly.
Yeah, maybe that's one of the reasons, but he could have another way to hack a Steem wallet. But anyway, always be aware.
