Why Steemit should revise the reward system

in #steemit8 years ago

Spoiler alert: this article is not about make-up, traveling, introducing myself or a meme.

In my opinion, Steemit reward system should be revised because...let us imagine for a moment, what if a group of "whales" wants to highlight a specific news or a couple of news favorable to them (especially for elections candidates) they will just upvote the post...and the post will be in top 10 for sure. As we all aware, Steemit gives a great opportunity to promote info's.

And at some point, Steemit may become the no. 1 social-media. Mass media is the most powerful tool used by the ruling class to manipulate the masses. It shapes and molds opinions and attitudes and defines what is normal and acceptable. Most of the "whales" here, as in any business, are present just to make profit and go (hit & run).

But on the other hand, "whales" are not necessary "bad"..they can be good and supportive (see the @berniesanders post: https://steemit.com/marijuana/@kell234/berniesanders-make-crazy-upvotes-again-20-upvotes-with-cost-10k-sdollars-in-article-about-marijuana-who-is-he-and-why-is-it-done). I guess, it depends on what your view is.

“...people live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true... that is how they define reality. But what does it mean to be correct or true? Merely vague concepts... their reality may all be an illusion.”

For the moment, let's just be happy than any article (more or less meaningless) can be in the top 10.

I feel the same way about these issues! On the other hand, am also grateful to be on Steemit so early because I know our Steem Power will pay off :)

Steemit is just a new feudal system where the "whales" rule the world.
You can't make it here without a whale noticing You and upvoting You. Or You just invest a lot of Your own money first into steem power.
I think a re-balancing would be great.

Let's say Steemit promotes freedom and democracy, how they missed the part where all the votes are equal?

I think the situation you describe is a feature, not a flaw. People who have invested more need to have more power to decide what is valuable and what is not. If they make wrong choices they will lose the most - and this is fair.

So what's the difference between Steem and the corporate world where big money prevails? The difference is very subtle yet crucial: in Steem power comes with full responsibility for the consequences of one's actions.

Maybe it is not very clear for me and you can help me to understand. How exactly they gonna loose (if we are talking about money) if they make poor choices? Because, as far as I know you can't loose the Steem Power (which is used for vote). They can easily just create a story and upvote themselves and still be rewarded enough to increase their Steem Power, right? Please, correct me if I am wrong.
