Proposing “Collective”
In Steemit we have: Home, new, hot, trending, and promoted. That is not enough
I believe that the organisation features for finding posts on the steem blockchain through steemit.com are not enough. They leave a wide gap in coverage of posts. Home shows you people you are subscribed to, new shows what has just been posted, hot shows what has been upvoted recently, and trending shows you the most popular posts.
The Gap
I believe this leaves a gap in the coverage of posts that are still good but: Are not made by accounts with high amounts of subscribes/bots and not caught in the flood of new posts and immediately upvoted by a large account. Even if the post makes a few dollars and gets a few views, it will not get very far unless it gets a whole bunch of rewards in a short period of time. (Which for an account that is not popular, can only come from a whale.)
EDIT: Another problem I have thought of is that posts tend to "die" quickly. After the first day or so posts tend to just drop off and receive little to no new upvotes.
Collective
Authors should not get rewards, the posts should. This means that even if a post is not super-popular it should get a chance at life.
Collective is a feature on many other social media platforms, and we should have something similair too. Collective throws together a bunch of posts from all over, although it is not completely random. The higher view to like ratio, the more often a post will be shown. In other platforms this helps smaller posts get big quickly. This would help Steemit because it helps put more emphasis on quality instead of popularity.
Currently one thing hindering mass adoption of the platform is the massive circle jerk of large users and curation rewards. A popular author is basically guaranteed upvotes, which leads to whales and bots upvoting them for curation, which leads to more popularity and more whales. This only makes it harder for new users to get a foothold on the platform, driving people away.
Well that’s my solution to a problem I perceive on the Steemit Platform. It could function just like the tabs we have now, and in the future customisation would be nice. I would like more options to choose what mess of posts to look through.
Well considering all things, it might stabilize the platform a good amount and give chance for new users to arise in this part of the internet. Regardless, we'll have to wait and see for unforeseen consequences of implementing a "collective" into Steemit.
Tired of the celebs, we need fresh new authors on the trending page. Unless steemit do something about the views.
Most of the new authors don't have enough sp power to propel themselves at least to the hot tab. Unless they have a lot of money to invest here...
yeah that's "free" market capitalism for you
you can't really have a community centred around only 20 people
You're so cool!
Very good points! Yes it's definitely frustrating when your life-changing posts don't perform like they should 😄😏
yeah watch this one do the same thing too lol
Hey man, some peoples' posts don't hit the $10 mark (;
Gotta stay humble...
meep
You're so cool!
I imagine what could be tried is a "hot" section where the received voting values are inverse to the voters reputation. There, the low rep folks count most.
I feel like that would be open to manipulation
From my analysis I know that 5% resp. 8% of ALL steemit posts start with "Welcome" resp. "Thank". Together with the monetarily enforced positivity and re-enforcment in the way you described above, I can only consider the platform an experiment.
Your current rep is 67.392933 btw.
are you sure? I think my rep has changed, you better make a bot to update that dynamically
I'm pretty sure, yes.
The ranking of people in a linear oder, that the bot uses, was made at a particular date. However, those numbers are "live". Now it's 67.394367.
You're so cool!

Upvoted and resteemed!
Very valid points. As a newbie i am still learning.
Upvoted & RESTEEMED! :)
Definitely room for improvement. Still in beta over a year now, is that usual?
each project is in beta as long as it needs to be. I have seen longer betas and far shorter betas, it really depends on when we feel it is done.
You're so cool!
Interesting idea! I'd love to discover more good quality content without searching endlessly for it.
yeah, that is always a problem
You're so cool!
