Introducing Portable Steem A Better Editor And More

I am happy to announce the creation of Portable Steem, a lightweight alternative that you can run off-site!

It is now available for free at PortableSteem.com

Portable Steem is a new lightweight version of SteemIt that fits in just one small html file that can run in any web browser with javascript.
You can download the whole thing to your own computer and can run it anywhere. That includes Smart Phones, Raspberry Pi and other gadgets.

Originally the goal of this project was to build a better text editor for SteemIt, but I quickly realized that a lot of things could be done with the Steem API.

This first release will be version 0.9 (it's still in the early beta phase)
It is free under the MIT License, and you can modify the source code.

Some of the features that are currently in this release:

• Full Markdown support
• Erase all Markdown Codes for a line of text with a single button
• Instant render to reader-view
• Simultaneous side-by-side Markdown-Editor and Reader-View
• Print to paper
• Save and download text file
• Open any plain text file
• Portable Steem can be downloaded and run off-site, even embedded into custom applications.
• Mobile Friendly design should work on most smart phones and other small-screen devices
• Option to use editor in Full Window mode
• The editor can automatically increase its size to fill the page as you type
• Options to turn Spellchecker on or off

Some of the features that I'm planning for future releases:

• Browsing with a post reader
• Commenting on existing articles
• Voting for articles and comments
• User-Interface translations (it's currently only available in English)
• Undo/Redo buttons (For now use keyboard shortcuts: Control+Z for Undo or Control+Y for Redo. Mac users press Command key instead of Control.)
• Eventually I'd like to make an Android App from Portable Steem

Known issues with this release:

• Some of the urls in links and pictures didn't show up at first, but were easily fixed... needs more testing.
• Some features are still untested

Portable Steem is not meant as a replacement for SteemIt, it is intended as a lightweight alternative that can easily be downloaded and used off-site.

It's still a work in progress, and it may take some time before it's ready for prime time.
This is a very early release (writing support only, the reading and voting parts will be available in future versions).

If you find any bugs or have any problems with Portable Steem then feel free to submit a support ticket at Anomaly-Online.com so I can fix any issues.
I also want to hear whatever comments and suggestions you may have.

You are free to modify the code and create your own versions and branches of this software.
That means that if you get Portable Steem from anyplace other than PortableSteem.com then you might be using a modified version which could potentially be unsafe.

You should be very careful where you use your Private WIF key. I recommend looking at the source code to be certain that there's nothing malicious in it.
Always get your copy of Portable Steem from PortableSteem.com unless you trust the source, or modified it yourself.
The source code in Portable Steem has been commented and pretty-printed to make it as easy as possible to read and work with.

The main page at PortableSteem.com will always redirect to the latest release. To get an update just visit the site and download again.
Older releases will be left on the server, they just wont be the 'live' version which the main page redirects to.

I used Portable Steem to write this article. So far my favorite features are the saving/opening, and the full window size with side-by-side views.
