The part you mention about artists work being stored in the blockchain is interesting - can you tell me how does one look it up on the blockchain, i.e. prove the image is their work? (sorry I'm new so haven't searched the topic, but I will if you recommend) and can I use Steemit as an image host and make img src link on my website?

As you post here on Steemit all content is written on Steem blockchain. Just go to https://steemd.com/@your_account_name and you can verify that yout content is for all times written on Steem blockchain. This entry is unique and you can reference that entry as your original work. Before blockchain era this was impossible to do on internet. Blokchains now aloud to store original content on internet. Because of that Blockchain technology is so great invention.
