RE: Briggsy's Unfiltered Thoughts - Mob Justice: A Growing Concern, or a Noble Cause?

I agree that more limitations are not the answer.

Steemit is like an oasis in the middle of the me, myself and I systems which dominate all sectors in the current world economy. Like all oases it will continue to attract characters ranging from the genuinely thirsty at one end to the bloodsuckers at the other extreme.

Wherever humans are allowed to congregate freely, several character types usually emerge. One of these is the raptor. Raptors are rapacious. They are predatory and mercenary. It’s about what they and they alone can gain.

There is nothing raptors won’t do to get ahead, including destroying the very systems which feed them. Then what will remain for them to feed on? The thing is, raptors don’t care.

Raptors do have roles to play in healthy ecosystems. They have a sixth sense for weaknesses and prey. By their actions they show what needs to be strengthened or what should never be taken for granted.

What may appear as a weakness in Steemit – the accessibility, the minimal checks and balances, and so on - is actually its strength. But you can’t protect it by restricting these. They are an intrinsic part of what makes Steemit special.

As you’ve said, Steemit has a soul. It’s the reason why many people are still here. Few systems are designed to promote, acknowledge and reward decency. In the short time I’ve been here I’ve come across several utterly refreshing and incredibly inspiring noble acts.

In addition, everybody has a chance to grow here. Everybody. What we choose to do with this chance depends on each one of us.

We can decide to be cynical and strip as much value as we can as soon as we can before the chance to reap is gone – it always goes.

Or we can decide to grow and thrive and take advantage of this amazing opportunity to be the best that we can be, share it with others while taking care – at the very least – of our basic needs.

Sometimes an appreciation of what we have - as seen in what we do - is all the reinforcement needed to protect something.

Very profound opinion. After three months here I'm at the same point. I'm maybe even more radical as @briggsy is. I start an noble initiative For Better Steemit #1, #2, #3, #4 Inspired by my idea Upvote Myself no More. Check it out, this posts are reminiscence of your comment, I think!

I think I find another noble Steemian here!
