Would you buy a Steem account for a friend with Steem or SBD?
I recently proposed to the Steemit team to add a feature to allow Steemian's to create accounts for their friends via Steemit. By coincidence, this feature was added shortly thereafter to http://busy.org and @timcliff made a post about it here:
https://steemit.com/news/@timcliff/new-tool-from-busy-org-create-new-steem-blockchain-accounts-with-steemconnect
Personally, I'm very excited about this feature because it seems like one of the best ways to validate users as "real people" for onboarding purposes. This method of account creation gets around the faucet abuse problems with previous methods, because the Steemian would actually have to make a gift of some Steem to their friend to create the account (with the faucet method, accounts were paid for by Steemit, and some people went so far as to fake their identities to get lots of accounts). I think people are already primarily brought to Steem by friends, and I don't think it's a great leap that people would be willing to buy or at least loan Steem to a friend to create an account for them.
Anyways, I'm mainly posting this to get other people's opinions on this. Would you create accounts for your friends this way? Or, have you used it already? If so, any comments on the experience? Do you think there should be a direct link on steemit.com to the account creation page?
yes this is awesome, that way we can offer a Steemit account to our friends or relatives as a gift, the link on Steemit.com is a must ! resteemed
Awesome advice...hope they bite! lol
i agreed to you :)
Why not. I used that feature already.
@blocktrades, it's an awesome idea and I would buy a few of my family and friends steemit accounts. i would like for my young boys to have accounts as well. They are too young now, but for future use and so I can tag them in my posts.
I figure if I could start gifting them Steem Power now, they could have some serious Steem Power in the future.
This feature actually exists today: usage is documented in timcliff's post, if you want to give it a try. I'm hoping a good response here on this post will get a link on steemit.com so the feature has more visibility. If you do wind up using it, please post your thoughts about it afterwards here.
@blocktrades, I delegated 20 Steem to each of my sons, so they can have early accounts here on steemit. They won't be active for some time, but their steemit accounts are ready when they are.
My plan is: whenever I post about one of my sons or post regarding both of them, I will transfer a percentage of the steem power to both their wallets. A steem power savings account for both of my precious boys.
I wanted to do it once, but because I never hold liquidity, I was not able to, it would have been nice to add the SBD option as well.
Great idea. I wasnt a content supplier and had to be placed on the waiting list due to not having a Facebook/Reddit account. I signed up in Aug and was accepted in Dec. I have more than 10 friends who want to sign up.

I would. Considering I've had many dear friends sign up and some find it difficult or time consuming
As a user whos actively marketing and promoting steemit I'd love to be able to instantly create an account for a friend during a discussion and hand it over immediately and get them to start using it the minutes after creation. I could get 3x the signups i am currently. :)
It's nice to be able to get an account verified right away... Yes I am going to use it for family/friends, but I haven't as of yet.
Thanks for the always great service blocktrades, I use you guys over shapeshift. 👍
By the way, last night I created an account for my nephew using steemconnect. It was very easy, I just had to pay 6 steem to create it. The 6 steem went to his steem power, I told him the first 6 steem he makes is mine. 😁
Yes... I also have made one account for my daughter. I use busy.org as @timcliff write on his posting. :)
Yes, sort of like an invitation, would help steemit viral growth!
yes, that would help out the beginners out a lot im sure.
I would... especially since the blockchain would show who is creating friend accounts to keep abusers out of the way. I man, I don't have 9999 friends, and if my account created that many.. well.. then you know something fishy is going on..
Personally, I'd like to see new accounts have to serve some sort of probationary period. If you don't write "ever"... or get upvoted "ever"... then perhaps after 30 days the account gets released again.
I don't know... as long as we can stop name hoarders from buying up every cool name in existence... I'm all for it.
Sounds like an awesome idea, i would be willing to open a account for a friend and send some sbd there way. In my opinion this would make it easier to get people to our platform.
