Av. tucuruvi. 50's Avenida Tucuruvi, known as Avenida Pires do Rio, was made official with this name through Act 1,070, of April 25, 1936, as it is an important road in the district of Tucuruvi. The term Tucuruvi has Tupi-Guarani origins and means green grasshopper, combining the terms tukura = grasshopper and oby = green. Another current states that Tucuruvi can also mean green bamboo.
