Holiday time, My respond to the 'Narrow-minded' and HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR! GONG XI FA CHAI!

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.” ― Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky

This is my favorite quote from Terry Pratchett about finding a new perspective and in this regard is travelling. We need to see this big world and learn a lot from it, that is what travel can do to you.

I'm lucky because my new employer allows me to take holiday leave even being on probation-- blessed.

I'm not a 'deep-pocket' traveller to be honest. I'll stay within my budget even I have to cook a lot while enjoying a good sight. I guess its the new age of travellers.

There was this time at the airport, I was stopped by a lady.

She asked me:

Why are you caring these backpacks around? Why can't you just carry luggage? why people now doing that?

(FYI, I had two of them, one at the front , one at my back)

At first I thought this lady just being nice, but her end tone was quite cynical

So I responded:

We took the low cost flight Mam! We also don't have enough money to buy that luggage option, so we carry what we can. Also, we don't asked anyone to carry them for us. Btw, it is called 'backpacking' Mam.

She replied (which is shockingly annoying considering her efforts to get on our nerves)

If you don't have enough money, just stay at home

I was..... taking a deep breath when I replied her tone.

So I said.

My mom said to keep on travelling and see the world so that you do not become 'NARROW MINDED' like SOME people! See ya!

Obviously, I do not attend to her 'interrogations' any longer. I noticed that they are a wide between Baby Boomers generation with Gen X people in terms of understanding. I witnessed it so many times in working environment that I just did not bother any more. How we travel, how we choose our job, how we do our job, how we manage our time seems to be unacceptable to these Baby Boomers (Not all) that we were often branded 'lazy', 'feeling entitled', 'spoilt' and others.

Anyway, my trip will be a quick 6 days trip taking advantage of the Chinese New Year holiday.

Happy Chinese New Year, GONG XI FA CHAI

ANGPAO LAI LA!! (give me money packets)

Jen.
