Nito Kendo ( two sword style )
I decided to share a less common style of kendo. This style is called Nito.
Nito style swordsmanship goes all the way back to Miyamoto Musashi.
Musashi was a ronin and a expert Swordsman especially with two swords. Samurai used to carry two swords and Musashi's thoughts were, if you carry two swords why not use them both.
The Idaho Kendo Club has an annual Nito seminar. At this seminar we bring some of the highest ranking Sensei from Japan to instruct us in Nito style Kendo. In Nito you use the long sword and short sword.
In 2016 I experienced my first Nito seminar. This seminar was lead by the late Toda Sensei.

Toda Sensei was a legend in Nito Kendo. Here is a clip of Toda sensei.
The next several clips are sensei's from Japan that were taught by Toda sensei. These were at this year's Nito seminar in Boise Idaho.
Those were all demonstrations done by sensei's from Japan. The next few are Sensei practicing together while we watch. They spent all day training with us and they wanted to give other Sensei a chance to practice with the Nito sensei.
Next are various ranking kenshi practicing both Itto and Nito.
The final video I have to offer you is a match between Ryan Atagi Sensei and Rhett Atagi Sensei from The Idaho Kendo Club. At the end of the seminar we had a Toda Memorial Cup in honor of Toda sensei. Both Atagi brothers made it to the finals.
