In Praise of Some Good Steemit Witnesses
"Life is too short to remain unnoticed."
- Salvador Dali -
Good Steemit witnesses should be noticed.
Today, I'm setting aside other important tasks to write this "shout-out" for some witnesses who have been very responsive to concerns I've recently expressed.
I was excited when word reached me that long-awaited "unlimited, perpetual editing" was finally going to be implemented. As a serious Steemit content creator, that is an issue very near and dear to my heart.
My hopes started to slip,
however, when a week or more had gone by and that [Edit] button had not reappeared... I then posted a gentle request on Github (FYI, that's where developers keep a log of all Steem code development) asking that the developers move things along as soon as possible.
Steemit witness Tim Cliff ( @timcliff ) kindly responded, letting me know that only five of the top 20 witnesses had adopted the new software so far, and that Steemit Inc. would not update the interface to allow editing until more witnesses stepped up.
My hopes started to slip...

After some thought,
it occurred to me that I had been overlooking a possible avenue of influence. I decided to write a note to each of the witnesses I support with my 30 witness votes, appealing to them to hasten the happy day by upgrading to the latest version of Steem software. I also sent similar notes to every one of the top 20 witnesses who had not yet upgraded.
Within a matter of hours,
I had heard from several witnesses, even some that I had not voted for.

I have been very pleased with the response overall,
and I want to particularly thank the witnesses who replied to my concerns. As of the time of this writing, and generally in the order that I received those responses, here are my shout-outs:
- @neoxian - read the response here.
- @anyx - read the response here.
- @gtg - read the response here.
- @bennierex - read the response here.
(Note: @bennierex is part of the @blockbrothers witness group) - @dragosroua - read the response here.
- @reggaemuffin - read the response here.
- @enginewitty - read the response here.
- @teamsteem - read the response here.
- @arcange - read the response here.
- @blocktrades - read the response here.
- @pfunk - read the response here.
Note: I've listed only the initial response from each... in some cases, our dialog went on to a better conclusion, which you can read if you like by looking at the context. In all cases, the witnesses who responded did so with grace and style, often going out of their way to explain the situation to me.
I will also leave it as an exercise for the reader to see which of the witnesses I personally support responded. ;)
Do I appreciate those responses?
I can hardly begin to tell you how much.

Thanks, Witnesses! 👍

But here are my biggest surprises.
One particular witness, who I had not even been supporting, went above and beyond the call of duty and took immediate, positive action on my biggest concern. That would, again, be witness Tim Cliff.
Tim actually built a working Steemit front end (called a "condenser") that, even though not all witnesses have upgraded, immediately provides my greatest desire, namely that long-sought, elusive [Edit] button. And so Tim gets my biggest shout-out today.
Thank you, @timcliff!
Your response blew me away.
Fellow Steemians, if you're reading this and you have a witness vote remaining, please support Tim Cliff as witness. I responded personally to his fantastic service here.
But wait, there's more!
Another "surprise witness" who responded to my inquiries was @gtg.
Why was I surprised?
Well, @gtg happens to be Witness #1, the witness with the highest Steemit witness rating. I really didn't expect to hear from Numero Uno, but he surprised me by responding. I thought he would be too busy to answer. Besides, he wasn't a witness I had voted for. And, already in the number one slot, I felt as if he really didn't need my vote.
Guess what?
It wasn't too long before I discovered why @gtg is Witness Number One.
I read his most recent witness log, and was quite impressed with his attitude and devotion to the Steemit platform.
I also (because of friend @moeknows and my efforts to improve my Steemit Library) discovered that @gtg runs a Public Steemit API node, something that I really need as a resource so I can continue to pursue learning how to write code to interact with the Steemit blockchain.
Thank you, @gtg!
Fellow Steemians, if you're reading this and you have a witness vote remaining, please also support @gtg, Gandalf The Grey, as witness. I responded to @gtg personally here.
Now, in case any witnesses/developers are reading this,
could you possibly deal with the Ugly Eject Box Issue sometime soon...?
EVERYONE who ever looks at a Steemit page full of those obscene warts will thank you.
😉
~FIN~
P.S. If you have an "in" with anybody at Steemit, Inc. - Would you please ask them to get rid of these damn, extremely annoying "off-website" arrow/boxes? The have, overnight, made Steemit ugly. There are much better solutions.

Impressive posts dear friends
I learn from your post ........ And I can improve my post.
Thank you😋
Thanks.
@creatr your mention of my reply is much appreciated, thank you. Please note that I’m not a witness myself, but I’m part of witness group @blockbrothers
Noted!
Thanks, @bennierex, for replying on behalf of the group! :D
Excellent post dear friend @creatr that good that things are resolved. @timcliff is one of the first witnesses to vote, is an extraordinary person, a person willing to help, to be honest I do not have much knowledge of witnesses more than @cervantes, now I know a little more about your publication and guided by you is that I voted to @gtg, thank you very much for sharing all this information
I wish you a great day
Thank you my friend, I'm more than happy to spread good news about good people! :D
Giving credit to those who do good is a beautiful thing. The world becomes a better place when that happens. Thanks for sharing such positive energy @creatr
That is super to hear!
It is refreshing to know how invested our witnesses are in the Steemit platform. Tim has been a solid voice that I have great respect for. Good to hear about Gandalf the Grey’s efforts as well now.
Way to be persistent my friend!
Anytime! Also, Tim is a real good cat. Spoken to him on multiple occasions and he surely has his wits about him.
