STARTING OVER
I was thinking today what would happen if something happened to your account and you had to start again. The months of work all down the drain for nothing and how long would it take to catch it all up.
I would dread it to ever happen, but would I do it all over again. I would in a heartbeat.
If you had built your account correctly and slowly building a community around you then you would be in a good position. This wouldn't take you long and would be flying in no time as though nothing had really happened. I am sure the followers would all chip in and help the wounded account along and bring it up to speed in whatever way they could.
This is what a community would do but if you were a lone wolf with bad habits and didn't network and engage with other users then you would be screwed. Bad habits maybe the wrong word to use as everyone can build their account in any way they seem fit. I am sure there are users still on here who don't comment and sell their votes out to another account. They wouldn't have the luxury of having others assist them as they have no network around them. This could be a problem though in the future.
Maybe this scenario will now play out when SMT's are introduced as each community will be operated separately and your community and followers who you engage with regularly will play a more important role. These are just some of the things I think we need to be aware of on why engaging with other users is more important than ever now and some will see it more clearly than others. Starting from scratch again with a new token will be like wiping the slate clean and starting over. The difference is some of us have a support network now and are looking forward to the SMT's more than ever.

It's true, I was -10 and the community all helped get me back to where I am now, can't thank them enough!
Especially @fulltimegeek.

How did you get to -10?

Sad a whale can just destroy someone's reputation like that...
It's a major failing of the Steem Blockchain.
Very true, steem has it shortcomings. Sometimes people use the voting system to their own advantage and for the wrong purpose. I feel like steem should make some further technical changes to their blockchain to prevent fraud.
The community and network is important here but I suggest, never lose your keys.
Totally agree with you.
I will dread having to rebuild from scratch, but its not impossible. I can do it, but not without the network already created. SMT's is almost here
I think in a way this is a curious feature of Steemit. For those that have connected, even loosely, with others on the platform. They can slowly but surely recovery if they want to.
But those who are abusing the platform will have a hard time recovering whatever they did have as they rarely connect with anyone.
I hope that I have made some connections here that could help me recover from a loss of account.
This is true. Networking and making connections are key to everything here.
Makes quite the puzzle for me XD
I lately have completely disengaged from my peers. I observe but try not to engage. Its a lot less stressfull. But a terrible way to try and make freinds.
Yes you are right buddy. If we waana grow than we should make our own community.
I can't fathom starting over again, but if I had to at least I have some support.
It would be a lot easier now.
