Is Steemit's Reward System Broken?
The main idea is this: Write, draw, create something and post it to Steemit. If it's good enough, people would like and upvote it. So you get rewarded. That's a revolutionary concept. How cool is that! That concept pushes to people force their brain to create high quality content. It's obvious that you can't get any credit if you throw a piece of photo from last night's boozy session like you do on Facebook. Higher your content gets, more reward you receive. More Benjamin! Win & Win.
But it's not what's happening here is it? On one side, amazing content with thousands of views and hundreds of upvotes but the total reward is only couple of bucks. On the other side, a dMania post that gives nothing to consumers with very low quality picture, with no mean, no description etc... Total view is 3. Total upvote is 14. Reward is $79.00
Does it ring the bell?
How this is possible?
Easy. There are some powerful users on Steemit. Whales! The people who has and holds big amount of Steam Power. Their upvotes may worth hundreds of dollars depending on the SP they have. And that creates a great business opportunity for both parties. When quality content creators can't breathe anymore, they are forced to pay to this whales some money in return of upvotes. And the platform becomes somewhere that you can make money by spending money, not by creating a great content. But you need to be lucky too. The 10 bucks that you pay to those bots may return you as 7 bucks. No profit guaranteed.
That interactions make the Steemit platform an ocean with full of rubbish in it. I'm not making up stories you know that yeah? I'm not the only person who sees the situation like this right?
Any solution?
If you are here for business, quick bucks... Go after them whales and their bots.
If you're here to contribute into system and the community, keep creating as you've been and most important:
Everyday, go to #introduceyourself and follow, upvote and comment a new fellow steemian!
Does it make sense? Am i wrong or any missing point?
You complain about bot votes and yet this post is fueled by them. The reward system is working as intended.
Plenty of groups rewarding users with out asking for pay in return. It's the communities fault for using the services. If there was no money in it, people wouldn't do it. So people have only themselves to blame.
You have a point. Would have been better had this post gone with organic voting
I'm new to Steemit and considered publishing some short stories on here I've spent months working on. When I started reading the trending stories and poems I realized the quality of the content really doesn't matter here. Most of the poetry is just that word porn garbage people regurgitate and the stories are mostly masturbatory monster romance novels. I don't know what I expected.
@denizkorkmaz I really like your message. I found it from Reddit and not because of the bots.
I think your using then kind of undermines your message somewhat. I stopped using bots a LONG time ago. Just didn't sit well with me.
thanks for your replay. i'm testing to find out what is the outcome. i'll tell you what: paid couple of bucks to bots, get back a buck profit but no views at all! it's not what i want:) i want my content to be consumed.
Yes it's hard to grow on steemit, but we have to fight, the problem that most people want easy earning and don't want to make something valuable for the community, keep doing what you doing and never give up, just don't care about the earning of others and try to not join those hot and trending posts a lot, build your communiity.
I really wonder, if I should go around and start to flag all the comments from bots I see - but I fear that would not help with the problem. And thoughts on that?
it wouldn't at all. It's a big ocean and there are more than you can imagine. I'm consiedering buying steempower and bot, than run it for myself and for the good creators. When u have a good power, people hang around you more too :)
By the way i'm not sure but i heard if you don't have a good amount of sp, your flags wouldn't effect them much, but if they have a big power and flagging one of your content by them only once just kills you :)
Right ... and although the masses could probably change things, if all were to do that, they are hardly moved, and only the one crying out for injustice is ... steemrolled (yes, bad pun).
In this regard, this site is just like the world outside ...
Agreed. Got my vote. The quality Steemians will float to the top eventually. We just have to be responsible curators of fellow quality content creators and ^power up^!
and i heard that they already started to clean spammy posts and accounts. regardless how much they make. It's a marathon, not a sprint is it? :)
Agreed!
