What is a steem witness ?
Steemit uses "witnesses" instead of "miners" to produce blocks.
Witnesses power the blockchain !
Out of the new tokens that are generated the remaining 10% pays for the witnesses to power the blockchain.
The blockchain estimates the dollar value of STEEM and STEEM Power based on the 3.5 day average price of STEEM reported by the witnesses. So in a few words price feeds from the Steem witnesses.
The Steem blockchain schedules witnesses to produce a new block every 3 seconds. 21 witness nodes produce 21 blocks in each 63-second round.So now you undestand their importance and how the steemit community works.
How can I vote for witnesses?
Vote witnesses only if you completely understand their work and after research also stay away for ethereums frauds .

Yes! Thank you dustbuster111! I had only voted for 5 of 30 witnesses and felt bad for not doing more, but then had some good council from my Steemit mentor that it's okay to take your time in choosing the right witnesses.
