Should YOU write about cryptocurrencies in steemit? Even if you know NOTHING about it?

in #steemit7 years ago

Are you happy with the results you're getting at steemit? If not, read this!

This post was not meant to be read by those who are already comfortable with steemit platform. It was made SPECIALLY for those who want to quit. You are also welcome here if you want to make this social network bigger.

It was also meant for the new ones, just like myself, that are really excited about it but don't grasp the way it works just yet.

And you, being a newbie, might say: But neither do you! You're a noobs here, just like me! And you'd be absolutely right.

But it is BECAUSE of that that I want to give you my first impression of the platform. Before I become "one of them" and I lose this fresh look. You will decide then, if what I think of it is just stupid, or is the best steemit advice you've ever recieved.

You might have noticed that some of the posts that get more money at Steemit are those related with bitcoin, cryptocurrencies, steem, etc. There's a good chance you tried to write something about it, even when you don't care much for those subjects.

Maybe somebody told you you could use Steemit to make a living and gave you waay too much information about witnesses, blockchains, upvotes, and a lot of other things you have no clue about. Is that your case? Are you feeling lost and wanna quit the boat?

Don't do it just yet!!! Let me explain why you shouldn't leave...even if you're not making a single coin from it.

First things first. Ask yourself:

Are you good at designing?
At programming?
Do you read a lot?
Do you watch a lot of TV?
Do you have any hobbies or interests?
Etc.

If the answer to any of those questions is YES, then you should stay. You are an EDITOR

If the answer is NO, then ask yourself:

Do you like reading other people's content?
Watching photos?
Check recipes and find those that you want to prepare or make somebody else prepare them for you?

If the answer to any of those questions is YES, then you should stay. You are a CURATOR

Or maybe:

Do you like copying someone else's content and just paste it in steem and you want to make money from it?
Do you want to make people think you care about them by answering generic comments to their posts?

If the answer to any of those questions is YES. Please run and don't look behind!

You might say to me: But I am writing about the things I like and I'm still not getting any money!

Well, there are several things you should do to fix that:

  1. Get a great title.
Simple, compelling and understandable. Check at the posts that are making money, pay special attention to the words they use to grab your attention. For example, If you want to give advice about how take girls like you, you can say something like "Ten things you should do to get the girl you like" People love lists!
You can also say "The most important thing you need to know to get the girls like you" People is curious, so they will end up reading it to see if they're missing some important piece of advice.
And Lastly, "What I did to get the hottest girl from my school" because people loves stories.

  2. Make great content.
Take your time to write a good article. Not just a regular one. Think of it as the article that will give you 500 Dollars. Would you write a piece of cr*p? Or would you try to make it woth it?
Take your time and re read it to find grammar and spelling mistakes

  3. Get a good photo to illustrate it.
You can either take a pic yourself or use one from the internet
Careful here: you absolutely CANNOT search in google for a pic and drop it here. That picture probably has an owner. And you don't want to have any legal issues or get a red flag, do you?

There are tons of pages to get pictures free for commercial use. And, since steemit gives you money for postingthose pics are your best option.

If you take your own photos, pay special attention to lighting. Natural light works best. Try to lean the absolute basics with youtube. You can get pretty decent pics with your phone if it's relatively new

  1. Bring people in
Have you got a facebook, instagram, twitter account? Have you got any friends that share your passion?
Tell them about steemit! Work with them to make more content about that subject available. The more content, the more people will find it through the magic of SEO and before you notice it, you'll have an audience!

TYPE 2: Curators

Well, this might look easier. It's not. Focus on what you like. Read the posts and upvote the ones who deserve it. One week later, if that post made money, you'll probably get some.

Try not to cheat
There are many bots you can use to comment an upvote everything you want. That may be tempting but although I am still new to the platform and I've heard a lot of good things about the use of bots, I recommend you to try to be you. If you're an Instagram user I bet you already hate bots and here I've seen a lot of generic comments like "I don't understand your language but I think it is a good post because of the way it's redacted" (Yeah! I read that, for real! Nobody likes that. Not in instagram, and I bet not in here either.

Here's a nice post on how to get the best curation rewards
https://steemit.com/steemit/@calamus056/curation-rewards-explained-in-great-detail

To conclude I will say: Be yourself. Bring people in. Make this place your own. You'll have time to learn all the perks later (and so will I!)

And please, tell me how it goes!
Best of luck and let's build a great social network together!

Thanks to @calamus056 for his great post :)
