I hate it when that happens.
It might be the new engineer steem (@ned) hired. maybe he decided he knew more than the person who generally sits front of the computer, and pushed a button he was told not to. It happens when getting a new job, sometimes. I remember a new supervisor pushing the big red button that said push in case of emergency only, he shut the whole building down, phones and everything.
tsunami alert in Hawaii comes to mind.
I wonder, if that's the case - how are you able to update? lol.
there are other gateways...busy for example (which I'm NOT using...I hate their text editor) , ChainBB (I'm not using it either) and yehey.org...(I'm using that one)..
The block chain is OK...but Steemit is ....

I dont really understand why steem keeps going down. I really dont like it! I hope something will happen and it will rise up again. Nice post!

Busy is perfectly ok, I switched immediately....
( There is also mspsteem.com, steemitstage.com and yehey.org for PC, chainbb is ok and free for commenting and upvotes too, esteem is on mobile and free, steepshot is also mobile and free for comments-...... ) lot of things to connect.
Yes, one more, they have that ugly new dark-red-black front end Viper.
I avoid websites that give me a headache.
red/black does that.
