10 things that happen before and after you die
Death comes to one and all of us and it still remains one of most intriguing things for us. Death is a mystery we are yet to solve and yet most of ish to avoid it at all costs. But there are certain things that do happen to our bodies before and after we die that we know about. Here, we have the 10 things that have been identified to happen to our bodies before and after we die.

#1 Death rattle
When people are really close to death they often lose their ability to swallow and saliva accumulates in their throats and also lungs. So when they are about to breathe their last, their breathing sounds like a rattle which is creepy, scary, and can chill your spine. It is one of the eeriest sounds we can ever hear.
#2 Cheynes-Stokes respiration
This is the pattern of breathing which oscillates between apnea (extreme shortness of breath) and hyperventilation (rapid frequent breathing). It can be really unsettling for both the person who is about to die, as the breathing functionality begins to fail and also for the person who hears the breathing pattern.
#3 Defecation
When we die, the muscles in our body relax completely and it is no longer able to function in the same way it used to. This leads to the body expelling the undigested waste by itself as the body cannot keep it in. It often happens to people who have had something to eat just before they die.
#4 Rigor mortis
It is after 2-3 hours after death that the body starts stiffening and the process is called rigor mortis. The process begins with the head and even our eyelids can go extremely stiff. The stiffness then travels to our feet and within 24 hours, our entire body can look as stiff as a mannequin's.
#5 Livor mortis
Following death, there occurs a discoloration of skin as blood pools in the dependent parts of the body. It happens as the heart becomes non-functional and is not able to circulate blood anymore. This phenomenon is used by coroners to determine the way of death as the discolored pattern reveals a lot about the cause of death.
#6 Algor mortis
After death, the body is no longer able to maintain body heat as there is no blood circulation. This leads to the body losing heat and becoming cooler with every passing moment. The chilling of the body happens up to the point where it becomes equal to the temperature of the surrounding environment.
#7 Tache noire
Tache noire means 'black spot' which is a dark strip-like pattern which appears in our eyelids and our tongues after we die. While alive, our eyes remain moist and so do our tongues but when we die the moisture may not be present. This causes these pattern to emerge in our eyes and on our tongues.
#8 Purge fluid
When a person dies, the inside of our stomachs may produce gas which may smell putrid and foul. As the gas accumulates inside us it creates pressure and that, in turn, leads to a foul-smelling liquid to emerge out of our oral and nasal passages. This is often used by the coroners to determine the cause and time of the death.
#9 Degloving
Degloving is the process wherein the soft tissues of our body perish away, especially the tissues around our fingernails, leading to our nails being torn-off. It happens because of the gas accumulation in our bodies which find an out from through the softer tissues of underneath our nails.
#10 Maceration
This means 'to soften by soaking'. It happens to infants who unfortunately die before being born. What happens is that the body softens a lot since it remains soaked in the amniotic fluid of the womb and by the time it is removed, the body no longer looks recognizable.

This is what our bodies undergo when we die and before long, we are united with the soil. Our bodies perish but our souls live on and so do our memories in the hearts of those we leave behind.
